Join to apply for the Medical Lab Assistant III (11020) role at Craven County Government.

Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of this position is to work in the patient blood drawing area and produce timely, accurate, and reliable test results. This includes blood drawing on adult, adolescent, and pediatric patients using standard phlebotomy techniques and equipment.

Percentages of duties: 80% Phlebotomy, 15% General Lab Duties, 5% Additional Support.

Phlebotomy duties include:
  • Blood drawing on adult, adolescent, and pediatric patients.
  • Using venipuncture and capillary puncture techniques with standard supplies.
  • Following OSHA Bloodborne Pathogen regulations.
  • Explaining procedures to patients and guardians.
  • Collecting and processing blood specimens correctly to preserve integrity.
  • Labeling specimens accurately and recognizing abnormal test results.
  • Reporting results and notifying supervisors of critical findings.
General Lab Duties:
  • Performing Quality Control and proficiency testing.
  • Monitoring supplies, reagents, and refrigerator temperatures.
  • Maintaining cleanliness and biohazard disposal.
  • Answering questions about lab policies and procedures.
Additional Support:
  • Providing coverage at other locations and transporting specimens and supplies.
  • Assisting during disasters and performing other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements

High school diploma or GED and one year of laboratory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of phlebotomy procedures, lab equipment, and terminology. Skilled in equipment use and procedure performance. Ability to observe, report, follow instructions, and instruct others.

Physical Requirements

Occasional to frequent bending, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, etc., to perform procedures or access supplies.
