Job summary

Beacon Health Options is seeking a full-time Medical Interpreter to facilitate communication between patients/families and healthcare providers with limited English proficiency. The role includes interpreting medical terminology, diagnoses, and treatment plans while adhering to strict confidentiality.

The interpreter acts as a cultural broker, supports the management team with records and devices, and performs other duties to maintain competence within the department.

Qualifications

• Requires fluent bilingual communication in English and designated language.
• Experience or training in medical terminology preferred.
• Certification in medical interpretation preferred or planned within six months.

Responsibilities

• Provide accurate, comprehensive, and professional medical interpreting services.
• Adjust communication to the clinical encounter and language level for clarity.
• Use culturally appropriate behavior to clarify or interject as needed.
• Maintain cultural awareness while respecting encounter goals.
• Advocate for the patient to support best clinical outcomes.
• Maintain required records and reports for the department.
• Support hospital departments with clerical tasks and device management.
• Perform additional duties to maintain competence and department effectiveness.
