Description

The Medical Interpreter will provide language interpretation services to patients, families, and staff in critical, acute, or chronic medical situations as needed. Services are provided in person, telephonically, or via video remote to facilitate communication throughout the hospital.

Qualifications

• Minimum Education: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience. (Required)
• Minimum Work Experience: 1 year interpreting in critical situations. (Required)
• Required Skills/Knowledge: Bilingual in Arabic and English; fluency in English and target language; proficiency in medical terminology.
• Required Licenses and Certifications: Pass interpreter skills assessment by CNH; 40-hour medical interpreter training with proof of certification from a reputable institution. (Required)

Functional Accountabilities

• Eliminates Language Barriers to Patient Care
• Facilitate accurate communication among patients, families, and staff
• Interpret directly and accurately, maintaining confidentiality and professional boundaries
• Manage assignments independently and maintain documentation

Promote Appropriate Utilization of Interpretation Services by Staff

• Educate staff on interpreter use and available services
• Coordinate with staff and medical providers to meet patient and family needs

Contributes to a Well-Organized Program

• Ensure interpretation assignments are coordinated effectively
• Maintain logs and documentation of activities
