What You Will Do
  • As the Medical Education Program Manager, you will be responsible for building a professional and sustainable medical education infrastructure by developing, planning, implementing, and evaluating education programs that ensure clinical staff competency and compliance with organizational standards. In this role you will focus on orientation, ongoing skills validation and competency assessments, and educational support for clinical staff, including but not limited to nursing, medical assistants, phlebotomists, and allied health professionals. The position partners with clinical leadership teams, Organizational & Talent Development Program Manager, Learning Experience Designer, quality, and subject matters experts to align medical education initiatives with strategic goals and regulatory requirements and ensures education is accurate, role‑specific, patient‑centered and health literate.
The Opportunity

Develop and deliver structured orientation programs for new nursing staff and other clinical roles. Ensure all new hires complete required education, competencies and skills checklists within designated timelines.
Design and maintain annual competency programs for nursing and other clinical staff. Conduct skills checkoffs and validate proficiency in clinical procedures, documentation, and safety protocols. Maintain accurate records of staff education, competencies and certifications.
Partner with education committee members and subject matter experts to develop, revise, and maintain annual education modules, presentations, quizzes, and competency materials and prioritize, track and complete education updates.
Assess educational needs across clinical teams and create targeted learning opportunities. Provide in‑service training and continuing education sessions for clinical roles. Collaborate with clinical leadership teams to ensure education programs support quality, safety, and compliance standards.
Serve as a subject matter expert for nursing practice and clinical protocols. Assist in implementing new technologies, procedures, and medications by educating staff and ensuring alignment with best practices.
Assisting with educational events, needs and requests related to oral, printed, or electronic materials, and presentations.
Maintain education calendars, project plans, and documentation related to assigned education initiatives.
Monitor effectiveness of education programs through feedback, audits, and performance metrics. Recommend improvements based on best practices and industry standards. Support continuous improvement efforts related to education standardization, accessibility, and staff engagement.
Collaborate with management to foster a culture of education and define clinical educational requirements for staff, communicate offerings and encourage staff attendance.
Performance Requirements

Knowledge
  • Knowledge of learning theories related to healthcare education for all age levels and learning styles.
  • Knowledge of computer applications including medical records and clinical care processes.
  • Clinical knowledge in areas related to nursing, medicine and allied health.
  • Knowledge of e‑learning modalities (website, videos, iPads).
  • Familiarity with policies and standards for CME/CE activities preferred.
  • Knowledge of assessing effectiveness of education programs.
Skills
  • Excellent verbal (including presentation) skills and written communication.
  • Teambuilding and interpersonal relations; mentor and provide feedback and redirection.
  • Exercising initiative, discretion and good decision‑making.

Abilities
  • Ability to educate staff in both verbal and written form in formal and informal settings.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse individuals at all levels of medical practice.
  • Ability to prioritize projects, meet deadlines and proactively follow‑up; handle many tasks simultaneously and deal effectively with changing priorities.
  • Ability to read and comprehend moderately complex written materials, such as medical materials.
  • Must be extremely organized, efficient, and detail‑oriented
  • Travel — Occasional travel for training/conferences as well as supporting IHI initiatives.
  • Valid RN license in the state of Indiana
  • Master's or doctorate degree in nursing, clinical nurse specialist advanced practice registered nurse (CNS‑APRN) with specialized training in patient and provider education.
  • Minimum five years of experience in a healthcare setting with three years of experience in healthcare education preferred.
  • All IHI employees are expected to enable multi‑factor authentication via their personal smart phone/smart device in order to access IHI systems as a requirement of the role.
  • This position is open to residents of the State of Indiana, and requires routine presence at our Center in Indianapolis, IN. Frequency of on‑site presence is dependent upon role and department needs.
