Job summary

VHC Health in Arlington, Virginia seeks a Medical Director for Vascular Surgery to lead the clinical and strategic development of our vascular program across a growing network. This full‑time physician leader will guide service expansion, coordinate multidisciplinary teams, and drive outcomes‑driven care throughout the health system.

Qualifications

  • MD/DO from an accredited medical school.
  • Completion of an ACGME-accredited General Surgery residency.
  • Completion of accredited Vascular Surgery fellowship training.
  • Board Certification in Vascular Surgery.
  • Eligibility for unrestricted Virginia medical licensure.
  • Minimum of 5 years of post-training vascular surgery experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership in medical director or equivalent roles.
  • Experience in program development, operational growth, or procedural service expansion.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient vascular surgery care.
  • Perform open and endovascular procedures for arterial and venous disease.
  • Evaluate and manage patients with peripheral arterial disease, carotid disease, aortic pathology, dialysis access needs, venous disease, limb ischemia, and complex vascular conditions.
  • Perform minimally invasive and advanced endovascular interventions.
  • Participate in inpatient consultations, emergency vascular call coverage, and perioperative management.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate evidence-based vascular care.
  • Support limb preservation, wound care, and vascular access initiatives.
  • Maintain timely and accurate documentation within the electronic medical record.
  • Lead development and expansion of the vascular surgery program.
  • Build referral pathways, operational workflows, and integrated vascular care models.
  • Partner with executive leadership on strategic planning and growth initiatives.
  • Assist in physician and APP recruitment, onboarding, and retention efforts.
  • Develop relationships with referring physicians and regional partners.
  • Identify opportunities for growth in endovascular therapies, limb preservation, and imaging services.

Education

MD/DO from an accredited medical school
ACGME General Surgery residency
Vascular Surgery fellowship
Board Certification in Vascular Surgery
Eligibility for Virginia medical licensure
Minimum of 5 years of post-training vascular surgery experience
Leadership experience as Medical Director or equivalent
Experience in program development/operational growth
