This is a senior physician leadership opportunity for a Board-Certified Psychiatrist with a strong background in addiction treatment, complex mental health conditions, and integrated psychiatric care.

The organization is seeking a hands-on physician leader who can oversee psychiatric and medical services while remaining actively involved in direct patient care.

This is not an administrative-only Medical Director position. The successful candidate will maintain clinical responsibilities, guide multidisciplinary treatment teams, supervise psychiatric providers, and help shape the organization's medical and psychiatric standards.

Position Overview

The Medical Director will provide comprehensive psychiatric and medical leadership across adult residential and partial hospitalization programming.

The organization serves individuals experiencing substance use disorders, trauma-related conditions, and co-occurring psychiatric diagnoses within a patient-centered treatment environment.

This position combines direct psychiatric care, physician leadership, clinical supervision, regulatory oversight, and strategic program development.

The ideal candidate is a clinically accomplished psychiatrist who enjoys working directly with patients, mentoring providers, and building high-quality psychiatric treatment programs.

Key Responsibilities
Psychiatric Leadership & Direct Patient Care
  • Provide psychiatric and medical oversight across residential and partial hospitalization programs

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and maintain direct patient care responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain high standards of psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and treatment

  • Provide clinical consultation and guidance on complex psychiatric and addiction-related cases

  • Oversee medication management practices and evidence-based psychiatric interventions

  • Support integrated treatment approaches addressing mental health, trauma, and substance use disorders

  • Provide medical oversight of interventional and adjunctive psychiatric services

  • Participate actively in multidisciplinary treatment planning and clinical case reviews

Medical Staff Leadership
  • Supervise and collaborate with psychiatric nurse practitioners and other medical providers

  • Provide clinical mentorship, education, and professional development

  • Promote collaboration between psychiatric, nursing, therapeutic, and operational teams

  • Support medical staff recruitment, onboarding, and performance development

  • Establish consistent clinical expectations and standards of care across treatment services

Quality Assurance & Regulatory Compliance
  • Ensure medical and psychiatric services comply with applicable federal, state, and accreditation requirements

  • Oversee clinical documentation, medical policies, and psychiatric treatment protocols

  • Lead quality improvement initiatives and clinical performance reviews

  • Support licensing inspections, regulatory reviews, and accreditation readiness

  • Identify opportunities to strengthen patient safety, treatment outcomes, and clinical effectiveness

  • Maintain appropriate standards for medical recordkeeping and regulatory compliance

Strategic Clinical Development
  • Collaborate with executive leadership on psychiatric program strategy and development

  • Evaluate opportunities to enhance clinical services and treatment approaches

  • Develop scalable systems supporting consistent medical and psychiatric care

  • Help establish and refine clinical policies, procedures, and treatment standards

  • Promote evidence-based, recovery-oriented treatment throughout the organization

Required Qualifications
  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited institution

  • Board Certification in Psychiatry REQUIRED

  • Active Colorado medical license or eligibility and willingness to obtain Colorado licensure

  • Active DEA registration in good standing

  • Demonstrated experience treating mental health conditions and substance use disorders

  • Experience supervising advanced practice providers and multidisciplinary clinical teams

  • Strong psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, medication management, and clinical decision-making skills

  • Knowledge of applicable psychiatric regulations, accreditation standards, and documentation requirements

  • Ability to balance physician leadership responsibilities with direct patient care

  • Willingness to work full-time onsite in Colorado

Highly Preferred Qualifications
  • Board Certification in Addiction Medicine or Addiction Psychiatry strongly preferred

  • Dual-boarded candidates are especially encouraged to apply

  • Previous Medical Director or senior physician leadership experience

  • Experience in residential behavioral health, PHP, or integrated psychiatric treatment settings

  • Background in interventional psychiatry

  • Experience developing medical infrastructure, psychiatric policies, or clinical programs

  • Strong background in trauma, addiction, and co-occurring mental health treatment

Ideal Candidate
