Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, a cornerstone of RWJBarnabas Health, is seeking a dynamic, visionary leader to serve as Medical Director of Stroke Neurology within our esteemed Department of Medicine.

In this critical leadership role, you will guide the clinical and administrative operations of our Primary Stroke Center. Reporting directly to the Division Director and Chair of Medicine, you will ensure the highest standards of patient care, lead strategic growth initiatives, and foster excellence in stroke services across our expanding health system.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Provide expert clinical care for stroke patients across the Emergency Department and inpatient units.
  • Lead quality improvement efforts to enhance stroke care outcomes and maintain stroke center accreditation.
  • Oversee and participate in the Brain Attack Team (BAT) call schedule, with balanced coverage and collaborative support.
  • Monitor protocol adherence, optimize response times, and drive best practices in cerebrovascular care.
  • Support service expansion initiatives across additional campuses, with Advanced Practice Provider resources.
  • Serve as a key clinical ambassador through EMS outreach and community education efforts.
  • Engage in professional development through continuing education and participation in regional and national conferences.
  • Work toward expansion of patient base by working with the leadership team in establishing mechanical thrombectomy for large vessel occlusion at NBIMC.
  • Participate in the Primary Stroke Center accreditation surveys and work on NBIMC achieving and maintaining status as a thrombectomy capable center.
  • Support Division growth initiatives through expansion to other campuses, especially RWJUH-Rahway and Trinitas Regional Medical Center as requested. Advanced Practice Provider support will be provided to assist expansion plans.
  • Participate in theinpatient neurology on call schedule at NBIMC with balanced coverage and collaborative support.

Qualifications:

  • Board Certified in Neurology with fellowship training in Stroke or Vascular Neurology required.
  • Proven leadership experience within a Primary Stroke Center or Comprehensive Stroke Center is preferred.
  • Strong commitment to clinical excellence, innovation, and collaborative team-based care.
  • Training in endovascular neurology is preferred but not required.
