Medical Director - Neurosurgery - Remote

The Medical Director in Neurosurgery at Optum provides leadership and oversight for the claims review program, ensuring quality and effectiveness of medical services. Responsibilities include participating in provider discussions, developing policies, and serving as a liaison between physicians and medical service providers. This role is remote within the U.S. and involves reviewing claims, participating in training, and supporting compliance with regulatory standards.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Review surgical and professional claims for correct coding
• Participate in training on compliance, confidentiality, and regulatory standards
• Discuss cases with providers telephonically
• Contribute to clinical conferences and performance reviews
• Prepare clinical summaries and rationales for medical necessity
• Be available for occasional weekend and holiday decisions
• Support regulatory compliance and provider relationship management
• Provide clinical support for review staff

Minimum Qualifications:

• MD or DO with active, unrestricted license
• Board certification in Neurosurgery
• 5+ years clinical experience in Neurosurgery, including spinal surgery
• Proficiency in MS Office

Preferred Qualifications:
