Expertise is required in the specific area of the clinical, regulatory and administrative leadership of an adult kidney transplant program. Applicants must have an M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. or equivalent degree. Board certification in Nephrology is required, and candidates must meet OPTN/UNOS criteria to serve as a primary kidney transplant physician.
Teaching responsibilities may include instruction and supervision of nephrology and transplant nephrology fellows, internal medicine residents, and medical students in the inpatient transplant service, consult service, and outpatient transplant clinics. The academic clinician track requires 100 credits per year of active and high-quality teaching.
Clinical responsibilities may include evaluation and management of kidney and kidney-pancreas transplant candidates and recipients, as well as living kidney donor candidates, in the outpatient setting, and attending on the inpatient kidney transplant service. Responsibilities include stewardship of waitlist management, selection committee processes, quality and performance improvement, and compliance with OPTN/UNOS, CMS, and SRTR requirements. The Medical Director will serve as an internal and external spokesperson for the program and participate in all transplant-related clinical and administrative meetings.
The Renal-Electrolyte and Hypertension Division is a highly collaborative academic and clinical environment with over 50 faculty and ACGME accredited general nephrology and transplant nephrology fellowships. The Division provides exceptional clinical care across general nephrology, dialysis, transplant nephrology as well as specialty areas such as glomerular disease, rare and inherited kidney disease, polycystic kidney disease, oncology nephrology, neuroendocrine tumor and hypertension. Penn performed the region's first kidney transplant in 1966, and the Penn Transplant Institute is the largest transplant center in the region.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced transplant nephrologist with strong leadership skills who is committed to patient-centered care, equitable access to transplantation, and multidisciplinary collaboration. Rank will be commensurate with experience.
