Job description

Medical Director Child Abuse Pediatric Program (Finance)

The Department of Pediatrics in the Morsani College of Medicine, University of South Florida, is seeking a full-time faculty member who is fellowship-trained and/or board-certified in Pediatrics, Family Medicine, or Emergency Medicine, with experience in Child Abuse Pediatrics. This is a twelve (12) month, full-time, non-tenure earning clinical educator position. Salary is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

The selected candidate will serve as the Regional Medical Director for the Child Abuse Pediatrics program, covering Hillsborough and Polk Counties. The role involves direct consultation and coordination with physicians and healthcare workers in evaluating and managing suspected child maltreatment cases. Responsibilities include outpatient care, inpatient consultative services, and clinical supervision. The program collaborates with community agencies, including DCF and law enforcement, and provides inpatient services mainly at Tampa General Hospital, which has an ACS-certified Pediatric Trauma Program.

The program also offers outpatient services through the Child Advocacy Center at Mary Lee's House in Tampa and provides medical director coverage for the Children's Home Society in Polk County. The team comprises nurse practitioners, case coordinators, a supervisor, and psychology support.

Minimum Qualifications:
  1. Medical degree from an accredited institution, with achievement in teaching, research, and service. Must meet university criteria for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate, or Full Professor.
  2. Board Certified in Pediatrics, Family Medicine, or Emergency Medicine, with experience in Child Abuse Pediatrics.
  3. Eligible for full medical license in Florida.
  4. Fellowship training in Child Abuse Pediatrics is preferred but not required.

Additional Responsibilities:
  • Provide outpatient and inpatient care, including call coverage per the Child Protection Team schedule. The position is based at Mary Lee's House in Tampa, with travel to surrounding counties.
  • Supervise clinical staff providing direct patient care, managing patient volumes of approximately 1200-1500 in Hillsborough and 800-1000 in Polk County.
  • Collaborate with DCF and law enforcement in abuse investigations, serve as a community health resource, and adhere to the Florida Department of Health Child Protection Team guidelines.
  • Engage in research collaborations within the department and university.
  • Contribute to departmental teaching programs involving residents, students, and staff, and participate in educational program development. Lead efforts to establish a child abuse fellowship program.
  • Report to a Chair or higher administrator, overseeing teaching, research, service, and administrative activities, including academic advising and committee participation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
