Job description

Join a Leading Team in Radiation Oncology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine

The Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine is ranked among the top 5 in NIH research funding. We are seeking a dedicated Radiation Oncologist at the Assistant/Associate Professor level (non-tenure track) to join our dynamic team and serve as Medical Director of our vibrant community-based academic radiation oncology practice at the Cancer Institute at the University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center (UM-SJMC) in Towson, MD.

Why Join Us?
Academic and Community-Based Opportunities: You will play a key role in expanding our community practice while maintaining strong ties to academic research. Your primary responsibilities will include increasing patient volume, participating in clinical trials, and developing collaborative relationships with local healthcare providers.
Clinical Trials Program: A major perk of this position is the fully integrated clinical trials program between the main campus and community practice sites. With dedicated on-site research coordinators, you’ll have the ability to enroll patients directly into clinical trials at the community site, providing access to cutting-edge treatments and enhancing patient care in these settings.
Opportunities for Promotion: The Department of Radiation Oncology values the contributions of community-based physicians and provides ample opportunities for promotion within the academic ranks. This position offers a supportive environment for career growth and advancement in both clinical and academic spheres.
Teaching and Mentorship: As part of our team, you’ll be actively involved in teaching and mentoring medical students, residents, and other healthcare trainees. Opportunities include providing lectures, participating in mock oral exams, and engaging in annual review courses hosted by the department.
State-of-the-Art Facility: The Radiation Oncology Center at UM SJMC is equipped with advanced radiation therapy technologies, including an HDR brachytherapy program, LINACs, and multi-disciplinary care teams. The practices also offer opportunities for clinical trial participation and engagement with a variety of departmental committees.
Key Features of the Position:
Practice Location: The Cancer Institute at UM St. Joseph Medical Center provides the highest quality of cancer prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment and survivorship to patients in the Towson, MD community. A formal affiliate of the nationally renowned University of Maryland Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center, we work to extend and enhance the quality of the lives of our cancer patients in a faith-based environment.
Innovative Research: The Department’s Precision Radiation Oncology (PRO) program, led by Dr. Phuoc Tran, Senior Vice Chair for Research, focuses on bridging the gap between novel research and clinical applications. The research team collaborates on advancing therapeutic strategies, reducing post-radiation therapy complications, and working on biodefense applications.
Medical Physics Expertise: Led by Dr. Amit Sawant, Vice Chair of Physics Research, our Medical Physics team is robust, with over 30 faculty members, dosimetrists, and residents. Research initiatives in treatment planning, tumor motion management, and inter-fraction image guidance are well-supported.

Compensation & Benefits:
Competitive salary range: $287,100 - $529,061 based on experience and rank.
Comprehensive benefits package, including participation in the Radiation Oncology variable compensation programs.
Work in a supportive, collaborative environment with access to cutting-edge technologies and research.

Salary Information:
The referenced salary range reflects base pay, which is based on faculty rank and years in rank. This salary range does not include all components of the Radiation Oncology faculty compensation program or pay from participation in Radiation Oncology variable compensation programs. Therefore, the actual compensation paid to the selected candidate may vary from the salary range stated herein. For more information, please contact the hiring department.
