Job Summary

The Medical Director of Academic Affairs is responsible for providing strategic and clinical oversight to the Academic Affairs and Graduate Medical Education (GME) departments at Children's Hospital of Orange County (CHOC). This includes supervising medical trainee programs such as the visiting observer, resident, and fellowship programs. The role supports the UCI-CHOC Pediatric Residency Program and UCI-CHOC Fellowship Programs, including developing new fellowship opportunities and programmatic enhancements. The Medical Director also participates in reviewing and approving program-level agreements, contracts, and budgeting activities.

Pay Range

Minimum $99.80 Midpoint $132.22 Maximum $164.67

Rate of pay is determined by various factors, including but not limited to knowledge, skills, competencies, experience, education, as well as position requirements.

Experience

  • Required : Minimum three (3) years of experience in academic administration.
  • Preferred : Five (5) or more years of experience in academic administration.

Education

  • Required : Post-graduate : Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy; Completion of M.D. or D.O. degree.
  • Preferred : Master's degree in Business Administration, Public Health, Medical Management or related in addition to required education.

Training

  • Required : Pediatric residency (3 years) in an accredited ACGME program. Training in physician leadership.
  • Preferred : Completion of course(s) for Physician Executive Management Training.

Specialized Skills

  • Required : Excellent written / oral communication and presentation skills; outstanding physician leadership and executive skills; great office and organizational skills.
  • Preferred : Knowledge and experience in quality improvement processes; research and grant writing skills; advanced business and technical skills.

Licensure

  • Required : American Board of Pediatrics; California Medical License; DEA registration; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
  • Preferred : Neonatal Life Support

Work Environments - Functional Demand :
