Position Summary

The Medical Director provides clinical leadership, oversight, and strategic direction for the agency’s home health aide services in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care through clinical supervision, policy development, and interdisciplinary collaboration. The Medical Director also acts as a liaison between the agency and the broader healthcare community.

Key Responsibilities
Clinical Oversight
  • Supervise and evaluate clinical services to ensure adherence to best practices, regulatory standards, and patient care guidelines.
  • Provide guidance on care plans for patients with complex medical conditions.
  • Review and approve agency policies and protocols concerning patient care.
  • Support the clinical staff with ongoing case consultation and education.
Regulatory Compliance & Quality Assurance
  • Ensure agency compliance with Medicare/Medicaid guidelines, HIPAA, and Washington, DC Department of Health regulations.
  • Participate in quality assurance/improvement initiatives, including chart reviews and incident reporting.
  • Oversee infection control protocols and risk management activities.
Leadership & Collaboration
  • Serve as a medical advisor and mentor to RNs, LPNs, and home health aides.
  • Work closely with the Director of Nursing, Administrator, and case managers to ensure seamless coordination of care.
  • Represent the agency in medical community meetings and partnerships.
Policy Development
  • Develop, implement, and update clinical protocols and medical policies.
  • Assist with staff training programs on clinical procedures and emerging best practices.
Qualifications
Education & Licensure
  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree.
  • Board certification in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, or Geriatrics preferred.
  • Active and unrestricted medical license in the District of Columbia.
  • DEA license in good standing.
Experience
  • Minimum 3–5 years of clinical experience, preferably with geriatrics, chronic disease management, or home health care.
  • Experience in healthcare administration or medical directorship is highly desirable.
Skills
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of CMS Conditions of Participation for Home Health.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
Working Conditions
  • Primarily office-based with periodic in-home patient visit oversight and clinical audits.
  • May require travel within the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
  • Flexible hours, with some on-call responsibilities as needed.
