Job summary

Lucet seeks a Medical Director (Behavioral Health) to lead clinical programs, oversee utilization management, and drive quality initiatives. You will work with health plans, providers, and internal teams to expand access to mental health and substance use services while maintaining regulatory standards.

Immediate requirements include a Michigan MD/DO license, board certification in Psychiatry, and 5+ years of psychiatry and 3+ years in managed care. This is a remote, full-time leadership role.

Important Requirement: This is a remote position. Candidates must hold an active, unrestricted Physician (MD or DO) license in the State of Michigan and be Board Certified in Psychiatry.

What You Will Do - Essential Functions

The Medical Director (Behavioral Health) provides clinical leadership and oversight for behavioral health programs, utilization management activities, and quality initiatives. This role partners with health plans, providers, and internal stakeholders to improve access to mental health and substance use disorder services while driving quality outcomes and regulatory compliance.

  • Behavioral Health Clinical Leadership
    • Provide clinical oversight and medical management for behavioral health programs, serving as the primary clinical resource for complex case reviews, utilization management decisions, and provider consultations.
    • Partner with health plans, providers, and internal stakeholders to support evidence-based behavioral health practices, improve member outcomes, and expand access to mental health and substance use disorder services.
  • Quality, Outcomes & Performance Improvement
    • Drive behavioral health quality, utilization, and performance initiatives through oversight of clinical metrics, quality improvement programs, and evidence-based standards of care.
    • Analyze clinical performance data and implement strategies that improve access, quality outcomes, operational effectiveness, and member experience.
  • Regulatory Compliance & Clinical Consultation
    • Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory, accreditation, and quality standards while maintaining alignment with industry best practices and emerging behavioral health trends.
    • Provide clinical consultation, education, and subject matter expertise to internal teams, health plan partners, and provider networks to support high-quality behavioral health care delivery

Who You Are

  • Required Qualifications
    • Active, unrestricted Physician (MD or DO) license in the State of Michigan. Ability and willingness to obtain and maintain additional state licenses as required.
    • Board certified in Psychiatry
    • 5+ years of experience as a practicing psychiatrist with expertise in behavioral health, mental health, and/or substance use disorder populations.
    • 3+ years of experience in managed care environment and/or utilization management.
    • Proven experience driving clinical outcomes, quality improvement, and operational performance.
    • Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders, including health plans, providers, regulators, and community partners.
    • Strong understanding of healthcare regulations, accreditation standards, and quality improvement methodologies as applicable.
    • Ability to travel up to 25%.
