Job summary

BATTELLE is seeking an Electrical Engineer (Early Career) to join our Defense & Materials Solutions group in Columbus, OH. This 100% onsite role supports electrical/embedded system design, testing and integration within a collaborative technical team.

The candidate is pursuing an EE degree with lab experience, and must be able to obtain TS clearance. Hands-on experience with oscilloscopes, soldering, wiring and firmware development is preferred.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering with coursework to at least sophomore standing or higher.
• US Citizen with ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret (TS) clearance.
• Physically fit for ladders and confined spaces.
• Solid grasp of basic electrical engineering concepts and ability to learn.
• Experience with standard lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, function generators, etc.
• Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
• Experience with programming in C, Matlab, Word, Excel, etc.

Responsibilities

• Provide support to electrical system design including parts searching, component specification, soldering, wiring harnesses, firmware writing, circuit design, simulation, PCB layout, assembly, test and debug.
• Maintain, test and troubleshoot existing electrical/embedded systems within a team and independently.
• Collaborate with Battelle engineers in Columbus, OH to design, fabricate and integrate new electrical/embedded systems.
• Generate and interpret electrical schematics; follow installation and testing procedures; maintain bills of materials.

Job Summary

Battelle is currently seeking an Electrical Engineer (Early Career) to join our Defense & Materials Solutions group. This position is 100% onsite, located in Columbus, OH.

Responsibilities

• Provide support to electrical system design which may include:
  • Searching for parts
  • Specifying components
  • Soldering circuit boards
  • Building wire harnesses
  • Writing firmware
  • Designing circuits (simulation, schematic capture, PCB layout, assembly, test, and debug)
• Maintaining, testing and troubleshooting existing electrical/embedded systems as part of an integrated technical team and independently with minimal oversight.
• Working closely with Battelle engineers located in Columbus, OH to design, fabricate and integrate new electrical/embedded systems.
• Generating and interpreting electrical schematics.
• Generating and following installation and testing procedures.
• Generating and maintaining bills of materials.

Key Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering and engineering coursework equivalent to sophomore standing or higher
• Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret (TS) clearance
• Physically fit to accomplish required tasking including working from ladders and in confined spaces.
• Solid grasp of basic electrical engineering concepts and ability to learn
• Experience with standard lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, function generators, etc.
• Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
• Experience with computer languages/programs such as C, Matlab, Word, Excel, etc.

Preferred Qualifications

• Additional work experience in the electrical engineering field
• Familiarity with electrical engineering design tools and methods
• Experience generating and interpreting engineering schematics
• Experience working in a lab environment, including preparing, conducting, and documenting tests, soldering, and wiring
• Signal processing experience, both software and hardware based
• Experience with programming in additional languages

Compensation Data

The salary range for this role is $20.00 - $40.00 per hour, in addition to a $2,000 housing stipend for students relocating more than 50 miles from home and university. Internship pay is benchmarked against national averages taking into consideration a student's major and year in school.
