Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of medical credentialing, provider enrollment, or healthcare administration experience.
  • Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, commercial payer enrollment processes, and CAQH maintenance.

The Medical Credentialing Specialist

The Medical Credentialing Specialist is responsible for managing the credentialing, recredentialing, and payer enrollment processes for healthcare providers across multiple client organizations. This role ensures providers maintain active participation with commercial insurance carriers, government payers, hospitals, and healthcare networks while remaining compliant with regulatory and client requirements. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and experienced in navigating complex credentialing requirements for multiple providers, specialties, and healthcare organizations simultaneously.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provider Credentialing & Enrollment
    • Manage initial credentialing, recredentialing, and payer enrollment applications for physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, therapists, and other healthcare providers.
    • Coordinate provider enrollment with Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance payers.
    • Prepare, submit, and track credentialing applications through completion.
    • Maintain provider records and credentialing files in credentialing databases and practice management systems.
    • Monitor application statuses and proactively follow up with payers, hospitals, and credentialing organizations to ensure timely processing.
    • Track provider licenses, DEA registrations, board certifications, malpractice insurance, and other required documentation.
  • Client Support
    • Serve as a credentialing resource for multiple healthcare clients and provider groups.
    • Communicate credentialing requirements, timelines, and status updates to clients and internal stakeholders.
    • Assist clients with provider onboarding and network participation strategies.
    • Maintain strong working relationships with provider offices, payer representatives, and healthcare organizations.
  • Compliance & Documentation
    • Ensure compliance with payer, federal, state, and accreditation standards.
    • Verify provider qualifications and credentials through primary source verification when required.
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date provider information in credentialing systems.
    • Conduct regular audits of provider files to ensure completeness and compliance.
    • Monitor regulatory and payer changes affecting credentialing and enrollment requirements.
  • Reporting & Process Improvement
    • Generate credentialing status reports for clients and management.
    • Track key performance metrics, including application turnaround times and enrollment completion rates.
    • Identify opportunities to improve credentialing workflows and operational efficiency.
    • Assist in developing and maintaining credentialing policies and procedures.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent; Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of medical credentialing, provider enrollment, or healthcare administration experience.
  • Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, commercial insurance payer enrollment processes, and CAQH maintenance.
  • Experience managing multiple providers and client accounts simultaneously.
  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and Outlook.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred
  • Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS) designation.
  • Experience working in a medical billing company, healthcare management organization, or credentialing services environment.
  • Familiarity with credentialing software platforms and provider data management systems.
  • Knowledge of hospital privileging processes and provider contracting.
