Position Summary:

BlackDoctor.org is seeking a sharp, strategic, and culturally competent Medical Content Editor to lead content development across our medical verticals—including BDOPro, Clinical Trials, and other editorial initiatives. This platform-agnostic role allows for flexibility across content types and formats, while supporting current publishing needs and preparing for future strategic growth.

This editor will be responsible for managing freelance contributors, producing high-quality medical content, and collaborating across teams to ensure clarity, accuracy, cultural relevance, and clinical integrity in all published work.

Key Responsibilities:

Editorial Leadership & Strategy

  • Develop and implement content strategies for BDO’s medical verticals (e.g., BDOPro, Clinical Trials, others as assigned)

  • Collaborate with marketing, partnerships, and analytics teams to ensure content supports business and brand objectives

  • Represent BDO in client briefings, editorial discussions, and external engagements

Content Management

  • Assign, write, and edit health-related articles per week, including features, expert Q&As, branded content, and patient education resources

  • Build and manage a team of freelance writers, providing clear guidance and editorial feedback

  • Work cross-functionally with internal stakeholders to shape story ideas, visual direction, and media planning

Live Programming

  • Oversee planning of the Clinical Trials Facebook Live series and HCP Facebook lives series

  • Support guest prep, scripting, and branded content integration during live and recorded editorial events

Editing & Quality Assurance

  • Conduct high-level editing and fact-checking for medical accuracy, accessibility, and tone

  • Ensure all content maintains BDO’s brand voice and aligns with current medical guidelines

Content Innovation & Optimization

  • Leverage analytics and audience behavior insights to optimize content performance

  • Collaborate with social and editorial teams to explore new formats and expand engagement across platforms

BlackDoctor.org Editorial Support

  • Contribute to BDO’s larger editorial calendar as needed, including special projects, series, and timely content

Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of editorial experience in digital health, science journalism, or medical communications

  • Strong writing, editing, and content packaging skills with a sharp editorial eye

  • Experience managing freelance contributors and working cross-functionally across departments

  • Familiarity with clinical trials, health equity topics, and culturally competent health communication

  • Knowledge of digital publishing tools (e.g., WordPress), SEO best practices, and performance metrics

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, public health, communications, or a related field (Master’s preferred)
