UnitedHealth Group is seeking a Medical Coder for Palliative Care. This role supports coding of diagnoses and procedures, ensuring accuracy per guidelines, with telecommuting options across the United States.

Required are AHIMA/AAPC certification and 2+ years in ICD-10/CPT coding, including experience with EMR systems and MS Excel. A high school diploma is mandatory, with additional professional coder credentials encouraged.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Professional coder certification with AHIMA and/or AAPC (CPC, COC, CPC-P, CCS) required and maintained annually.
  • 2+ years of experience with PCs in a Windows environment including MS Excel and EMR systems.
  • 2+ years of ICD-10 and CPT coding with focus in Palliative Care.

Responsibilities

  • Assigns accurate diagnostic and procedure codes according to clinical documentation and official coding guidelines for palliative care.
  • Assigns CPT and ICD-10 codes to all services.
  • Monitors assigned work queues to ensure records are charged/coded in a timely manner.
  • Generates coding queries for clarification regarding physician documentation as needed.
  • Stays abreast of changes in coding conventions and updates.
  • Ability to manage workload and work under pressure meeting deadlines with minimal supervision.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Assigns accurate diagnostic and procedure codes according to clinical documentation and official coding guidelines for palliative care
  • Assigns CPT and ICD-10 codes to all services

  • Generates coding queries for clarification regarding physician documentation as needed
  • Stays abreast of all changes in coding conventions and coding updates
  • Ability to manage significant workload, and to work efficiently under pressure meeting established deadlines with minimal supervision

Required Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Professional coder certification with credentialing from AHIMA and/or AAPC (CPC, COC, CPC-P, CCS) to be maintained annually
  • 2+ years of experience with PCs in a Windows environment, including MS Excel and EMR systems
  • 2+ years of experience with ICD-10 and CPT coding with a focus in Palliative Care
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 2+ years of post-certification medical coding experience
  • 2+ years of Outpatient Physician coding (Pro-Fee) experience
  • Experience with EMR systems (Epic)

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The hourly pay for this role will range from $20.00 to $36.00 per hour based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
