Job summary

UnitedHealth Group’s Optum division is hiring a CPC coder for outpatient hospital services, focusing on orthopedics and podiatry. You will assign CPT/ICD-10 codes, monitor queues, and generate queries to resolve documentation gaps. Remote work within the United States is allowed.

The ideal candidate holds a CPC certification, has 5+ years of pro-fee coding experience, understands Medicare guidelines, and is proficient with Epic and denials processing.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • CPC coder certification with AHIMA and/or AAPC (maintained annually).
  • 5+ years pro-fee coding experience in Orthopedics and podiatry services.
  • Medicare guidelines knowledge and modifier application experience.
  • Experience with Epic and denials processing.

Responsibilities

  • Assign CPT and ICD-10 codes for outpatient hospital professional accounts according to guidelines.
  • Monitor work queues to ensure records are charged/coded timely.
  • Generate coding queries for clarification on documentation as needed.
  • Stay updated on coding conventions and updates.
  • Adhere to the telecommuter policy and meet deadlines under supervision.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Assigns accurate diagnostic and procedure codes according to clinical documentation and official coding guidelines for outpatient hospital professional accounts
  • Assigns CPT and ICD-10 codes
  • Monitors assigned work queues to ensure all records are charged/coded in a timely matter
  • Generates coding queries for clarification regarding physician documentation as needed
  • Stays abreast of all changes in coding conventions and coding updates
  • Ability to manage significant workload, and to work efficiently under pressure meeting established deadlines with minimal supervision
  • Moderate work experience within own function
  • Some work is completed without established procedures
  • Basic tasks are completed without review by others
  • Supervision/guidance is required for higher level tasks

Required Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Professional CPC coder certification with credentialing from AHIMA and/or AAPC to be maintained annually
  • 5+ years pro-fee coding experience in Orthopedics and podiatry services
  • Intermediate knowledge of Medicare guidelines and modifier application
  • Intermediate level of experience in Epic and working with denials

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The hourly pay for this role will range from $20 to $36 per hour based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
