Summary:
Serves as a lead employee who audits coded records for multiple specialties. Analyzes coded records for compliance with federal, state and third-party insurer rules and regulations. Establishes a collaborative relationship with stakeholders to ensure quality standards are met.

This is a 100% remote position eligible for hire from the following states: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.

Responsibilities:
1. Accurately assign ICD-10-CM and CPT codes, including modifiers, and analyze information for proper reimbursement and compliance.
2. Provide updates to healthcare staff on coding practices and regulation changes.
3. Review and abstract provider documentation, obtaining missing info or clarifying as needed.
4. Perform pre- and post-bill audits.
5. Maintain departmental quality and productivity standards.
6. Review and resolve coding issues, and report coder performance.
7. Assist and train other coders and staff.
8. Collaborate on addressing coding trends.
9. Pursue continuing education and maintain certification.

Other Information

Education Requirements:
* High School diploma or GED
* Successful completion of UNC HCS SS Rev Cycle Physician Coder Auditor Proficiency Test.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
* AAPC CPMA certification.
Professional Experience Requirements:
* 5 years of physician medical coding experience with an associate degree or higher.
* 7 years if only a high school diploma.
