Job summary

Key Personnel is seeking a Medical Coder to join a growing healthcare organization in the Tulsa, OK area. The role supports accurate billing and reimbursement by coding from medical records and provider notes.

The position requires CPC certification, 6 months to 1 year of coding experience, and strong knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS. Work hours are Mon-Fri, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM, in-office.

Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding.
  • Understanding of medical terminology and healthcare documentation.
  • Ability to review and interpret medical records and provider notes.

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with computers and EMR systems.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with a healthcare team.
  • Commitment to patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Review patient medical records and provider documentation to determine CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS codes prior to billing.
  • Review outpatient encounters for accurate and complete coding.
  • Manage and maintain the medical coding queue.
  • Enter charges and print daily charge tickets as needed.
  • Post medical charges accurately and efficiently.
  • Review insurance and bill charges based on coding and documentation.
  • Maintain accurate coding records and documentation.
  • Stay current on coding guidelines and changes.
  • Assist other coders with reviewing patient charts and resolving coding questions.
  • Review charts for completeness and accuracy.

Key Personnel is seeking a Medical Coder to join a growing healthcare organization in the Tulsa, OK area.Medical Coder Pay: $19.00/hour
Medical Coder Hours: Monday - Friday | 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Medical Coder Summary:

The Medical Coder plays a critical role in supporting accurate healthcare billing and reimbursement by reviewing patient medical records, provider documentation, and outpatient encounters to assign appropriate CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS codes. This position is responsible for ensuring coding accuracy, maintaining compliance with applicable coding guidelines, and supporting an efficient reimbursement process. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to work independently while maintaining accuracy and confidentiality.

Medical Coder Responsibilities:
  • Review patient medical records and provider documentation to determine appropriate CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS codes prior to billing.
  • Review outpatient encounters for accurate and complete coding.
  • Manage and maintain the medical coding queue.
  • Enter charges and print daily charge tickets as needed.
  • Post medical charges accurately and efficiently.
  • Review insurance and bill charges appropriately based on coding and documentation.
  • Maintain accurate coding records and documentation.
  • Stay current on coding guidelines, regulations, and coding changes.
  • Assist other coders with reviewing patient charts and resolving coding questions.
  • Review charts for completeness, accuracy, and appropriate coding.
  • Maintain required continuing education and CEUs to remain current with coding standards.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations and organizational policies.
  • Communicate with clinical and administrative staff regarding coding questions or documentation concerns.
  • Perform additional coding and administrative duties as assigned.
Medical Coder Qualifications:
  • CPC (Certified Professional Coder) certification required.
  • Minimum of 6 months to 1 year of medical coding experience required.
  • Working knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding.
  • Understanding of medical terminology and healthcare documentation.
  • Ability to accurately review and interpret medical records and provider notes.

Medical Coder Preferred Skills:
  • Experience with outpatient medical coding preferred.
  • Experience working with electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
  • Knowledge of medical billing and reimbursement processes.
  • Experience with charge entry and charge posting.
  • Familiarity with insurance billing requirements and payer guidelines.
  • Experience working in a physician practice, clinic, or other healthcare setting.
Physical Requirements/Work Environment:
  • Work is performed primarily in a professional healthcare office environment.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods while reviewing medical records and working at a computer.
  • Frequent use of computers, EMR systems, telephone, and other office equipment.
  • Ability to maintain concentration and accuracy while reviewing detailed medical documentation.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a professional healthcare environment.
