First Physicians in Odessa, TX seeks a Medical Billing Specialist to ensure accurate claims and timely payments for our primary care clinics. You will join a capable team and support billing across multiple Odessa locations.

You will handle claims with Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial carriers, correct denials, post payments, and maintain compliance with HIPAA while providing excellent patient service.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Working knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding.
• Experience with insurance claims, denials, and appeals.
• Strong attention to detail and organization.
• Friendly, professional, and patient with patients and payers.
• Comfortable with computers, spreadsheets, and billing software.

Responsabilités

• Prepare, review, and submit claims to Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance in Athena.
• Work claim rejections and denials, correct errors, and submit appeals.
• Post insurance and patient payments, adjustments, and EOBs/ERAs.
• Follow up on unpaid and aging claims to keep accounts receivable current.
• Bill workers’ compensation claims and follow Texas workers’ comp billing rules.
• Bill employers for DOT physicals, drug screens, and other occupational medicine services.
• Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits when needed.
• Review visits for correct CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS codes and modifiers, and work with providers to fix documentation or coding issues.
• Answer patient billing questions kindly and clearly, and set up payment plans when needed.
• Prepare and send patient statements and handle collections according to practice policy.
• Run billing reports and help track key numbers such as denials, collections, and days in A/R.
• Keep up with payer rule changes and share updates with the team.
• Protect patient information and follow HIPAA guidelines.

Medical Billing Specialist

About the role

The Billing Specialist keeps our revenue cycle running smoothly by making sure claims are accurate, submitted on time, and paid. You’ll work with insurance companies, employers, and patients. You will also support billing for our other clinic locations in Odessa, all under First Physicians.

Required qualifications

Preferred qualifications

• 2 or more years of medical billing experience
• Billing or coding certification
• Experience with Athena (athenahealth)
• Experience billing workers’ compensation and occupational medicine services
• Experience with Medicare care management services
• Experience in a primary care or urgent care setting
• Bilingual in English and Spanish
