Job summary

Exponent is hiring medical billers, coders, prior-authorization and insurance-verification specialists as subject matter experts for a healthcare technology client. This is a remote, part-time, contract engagement with approximately 10 hours per week over 4 weeks, with possible extension based on performance.

Responsibilities include evaluating revenue-cycle workflows in a simulated environment, identifying deviations from real-world practice, and documenting findings.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in revenue cycle, coding, prior authorization, or pharmacy.
• 3+ years of daily, hands-on use of Availity, 3M Codefinder, CoverMyMeds, RightFax, athenahealth, or MDLand iClinic.
• Currently employed in the field, or left within the past two years.
• Working knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS for billing and coding roles.
• 3M Codefinder: inpatient coding or coding audit experience with groupers and principal/secondary diagnosis selection.
• CoverMyMeds: daily medication prior-authorization work.
• Clear written communication.

Overview

Exponent is hiring medical billers, coders, prior-authorization and insurance-verification specialists, and pharmacy technicians as subject matter experts for a healthcare technology client. You will evaluate revenue-cycle and authorization workflows in a simulated environment and document where the environment differs from real-world practice. This is a remote, part-time, contract engagement. No protected health information is involved.

Responsibilities

• Complete assigned workflows in a simulated environment: eligibility and benefits verification, authorization submission and appeals, claim generation and scrubbing, remittance review, charge entry, coding and abstracting, and fax routing
• Identify steps that fail, behave differently from the production system, or are missing
• Document findings in structured forms and short written notes

Engagement details

• Location: Remote, United States
• Type: 1099 independent contractor
• Hours: approximately 10 per week during active weeks, self‑scheduled
• Duration: approximately 4 weeks of work over 5 to 6 calendar weeks, with alternating active and inactive weeks; extension possible based on performance
• Start: week of September 14, 2026
• Equipment: your own computer and internet connection; browser‑based, nothing to install

Compensation

$72 to $99 per hour, determined by role, years of experience, and assigned system. Confirmed during screening.
