Job summary

Zepf Center in Lucas County is seeking a full-time Medical Billing Specialist to handle billing, posting, and denial management. You will manage insurance data, submit claims, and ensure timely payments while supporting the Billing Department.

Responsibilities include preparing EDI files, posting payments, reconciling AR, and resolving discrepancies. Strong Excel/Outlook skills and attention to detail are required for accurate ledgers and optimum payer outcomes.

Qualifications

• HS diploma or equivalent and at least two years of medical billing, posting, denial management, and collections experience.
• Experience with billing systems and insurance processing including Medicare, Medicaid, and workers' comp (BWC).
• Proficient in Excel, Word and Outlook.

Responsibilities

• Complete billing tasks including updates of patient insurance information and COB orders to bill the correct coverage.
• Prepare 837 EDI claim files and upload or forward for payment.
• Retrieve 835 remittance files and upload them into the billing system.
• Post payments and adjustments to individual client ledgers (manual & electronic).
• Review payments and adjustments for accuracy and note discrepancies.
• Monitor postings to ensure AR is accurate and reconcile EOBs, deposits, and postings.
• Address denials, rejections, under/overpayments with follow-up to secure payment.
• Process submissions and/or resubmissions of claims via EHR, payer portal, or clearinghouse.
• Respond to patient or staff inquiries and provide back-up support to Billing Department.
• Carry out agency policies; participate in committees/teams and other duties as requested.
