Job summary

OHC Medical Supply in Houston seeks a dedicated Billing and Coding Specialist to ensure accurate DME claim submission. This role starts part-time and grows to full-time as business needs rise, guiding a remote billing team to maintain coding accuracy and compliant documentation.

You will verify HCPCS/ICD-10 codes, payer details, and authorizations, coach staff, and handle denials and timely filing to optimize reimbursements. Knowledge of HIPAA is essential.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of DME billing and coding experience required.
• Medicare and Medicaid billing experience required.
• Working knowledge of HCPCS, ICD-10, modifiers, prior authorization, and timely filing.
• Comfortable training team members and reviewing their work.
• Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.
• CPC or CPB certification is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Review each order and patient file before billing to verify HCPCS codes, modifiers, diagnosis codes, payer information, authorizations, and required documentation, including orders, proof of delivery, and medical necessity.
• Hold incomplete or incorrectly coded claims and provide clear instructions for correction before submission.
• Investigate denials and rejections, correct and resubmit claims, and document the causes to prevent recurring errors.
• Follow up on unpaid claims and post payments and adjustments in our billing system.
• Review and coach the remote billing team’s work daily and answer coding and payer questions.
• Maintain accurate patient balances and communicate courteously with patients about their bills.
• Track billing errors and report patterns weekly.
• Follow HIPAA, company compliance policies, and Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payer requirements.

About the Role:

OHC Medical Supply is an ACHC-accredited durable medical equipment supplier seeking a dedicated, hardworking Billing and Coding Specialist for our Houston location.

This position will begin part-time and transition to full-time as business needs grow and performance expectations are met. You will ensure claims are coded and documented correctly before submission and help guide our remote billing team, so their work is accurate.
