Job summary

BRISTOL HOSPITAL MULTI-SPECIALTY GROUP in Bristol, CT is seeking a Radiologic Technologist for a full-time, day shift. You will perform radiologic examinations, prepare rooms and ensure equipment and supplies are ready.

You will transport patients as needed, position them correctly, and maintain high quality control and radiation safety standards while providing clear explanations to patients. Requires a two-year Radiologic Technology program and CT state licensure; six months experience

Qualifications

  • Graduation from a two year accredited program in Radiologic Technology is required.
  • Six months experience as a Radiologic Technologist.
  • State of Connecticut Radiology State Licensure is required.

Responsibilities

  • Performs a variety of duties related to radiologic examinations.
  • Transports patients to and from exam rooms as needed and positions patients on table or in standing/sitting posture.
  • Maintains radiation safety and quality control standards and ensures proper exposure settings.

Responsibilities
  • Performs a variety of duties related to radiologic examinations.
  • Performs radiologic exams. Receives orders for designated radiologic examinations and prepares room; checking to assure that all required equipment, supplies are on hand.
  • As required, transports patients to and from exam/waiting room in wheelchair.
  • Positions patients on table or in appropriate standing/sitting posture.
  • Required to lift, move, position and stabilize totally incapacitated patients.
  • Arranges, attaches and/or adjusts immobilizations or supportive devices, such as pillows.
  • Checks and adjusts for proper voltage, amperage, duration of exposure, etc.; making any required computations and calibrations.
  • Activates machinery and takes required number of exposures.
  • Repositions patient between exposures.
  • Processes films using automated equipment.
  • Reviews film for quality and readability and takes steps required to assure that quality control standards are met.
  • Maintains radiation safety.
  • Maintains radiation exposure levels to minimize patient dose.
  • Adjusts X-ray equipment for proper centering, angle of exposure to designated body area.
  • Arranges shielding devices.
  • Stands behind protective barrier or wears lead apron to meet Alara requirements.
  • Protects visitor and general public from unnecessary radiation exposures.
  • Maintains high level of quality control.
  • Maintains equipment and work area in clean and orderly condition.
  • Carries out prescribed preventative maintenance procedures on instruments/equipment; making minor adjustments or repairs.
  • Maintains communication.
  • Explains procedures to be performed to each patient.
  • Gives preparatory instructions and provides reassurance to anxious patients.
  • Refers to Office Manager defective or inoperable equipment for repairs/replacement.
  • Occasionally deals with uncooperative patients and/or distraught family members.
  • Observes patient’s condition and brings any unusual circumstances to attention of supervisor.
  • Is aware of limitations of Radiologic Technologist; practices and functions within those limits.
  • Assumes responsibility for professional self-growth.
  • Evaluates strengths and weaknesses and seeks guidance from the supervisor.
  • Implements self-improvement action plan based on annual evaluations and feedback developed with the Office Manager.
  • Keeps abreast of changes in the medical field and implements the changes as approved.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication skills, including listening skills, verbal skills and written skills.
Qualifications

Graduation from a two year accredited program in Radiologic Technology is required. Six months experience as a Radiologic Technologist.

State/Federal Mandated Licensure or Certification Requirements

State of Connecticut Radiology State Licensure is required

Bristol Hospital Mandated Educational Requirements

General orientation at time of hire. Fire/Safety/Infection Control annually. Other programs as mandated by Hospital.

Special Requirements

Demonstrated proficiency in electrocardiographic testing. Must be able to take vital signs, knowledgeable in medical terminology, anatomy and physiology. Familiarity with medical equipment common to a medical practice.

Physical Requirements
  • Bending, stooping, walking, and sitting on a daily basis.
  • On feet most of the day.
  • Assists patients in and out of treatment rooms, in and out of chairs, on and off exam tables.
  • Ability to spend one to four hours/day at computer terminal/personal computer performing data entry analysis.
  • Must be able to hear with sufficient acuity so as to understand routine conversation in person or over telephone.
  • Must possess sufficient visual acuity so as to read, use computers and conduct essential job functions in an acceptable manner.
  • Must be able to speak so as to be understood by the average person.
  • Significant documentation and paperwork review requiring extensive visual acuity.
Work Environment

Medical office setting with direct exposure to patients, body fluids, possible exposure to blood borne pathogens. High volume of telephone and personal contact with customers. Radiation exposure.

Cognitive Requirements

Must be able to triage patients according to need and time requirements. Must possess excellent communication skills. Must provide comprehensive, accurate initial assessment to Medical Providers. Must be able to read both routine and technical information with comprehension. Must be able to write so the average person can comprehend. Must be able to perform simple calculations for medication doses, physical exams and tests administered.
