Schedule

Schedule: Monday - Friday 8-4:30. One day per week travel to satellite office

Job Responsibilities

Performs a wide variety of cross-coverage duties to provide clerical and/or clinical support to physician practices including patient reception, flow and care.

Maintains patient electronic records and ensures adequate office and medical supplies for assigned areas.

Explains policies and procedures and routes patient information.

Answers phone calls and assesses as necessary.

Works closely with Centralized Appointment Scheduling to assure patient levels are maximized and provides clinical support as assigned under the direction of Medical providers.

Must be willing to be floated or reassigned to any office or location to meet the needs of the employer.
Patient Care and Clinical Support
  • Delivers on-site care for patients under Medical Provider direction, strictly adhering to Medical Assistant protocols.
  • Assists in the delivery of patient care such as suturing, wound care, debridement, etc., and ensures callbacks to patients are in accordance with protocol.
  • Responsible for restocking exam rooms with instruments and medical supplies.
  • Cleans, prepares exam rooms per protocol, sterilizes instruments as necessary.
  • Monitors and arranges for proper disposal of lab and medical waste/supplies.
  • Performs quality controls and maintains records for lab equipment/refrigerators.
Authorization and Certifications
  • Obtain all authorizations for specialists within 24 hours of the visit and accurately document authorization data in the system.
  • Identify carved-out insurance benefits on a case-by-case basis and document accordingly.
  • Provide patient information to insurance companies to secure medical necessity for treatment plans documented by the provider.
  • Schedule diagnostic tests and procedures/surgeries required by specific practices/specialties as designated by manager.
Patient Data Collection and Clinical Assessments
  • Obtain health history and baseline patient data.
  • Performs routine physical assessment functions such as blood pressure, temperature, pulse, visual test, EKG, pulmonary function tests.
  • Collect urine and blood samples in accordance with established protocols.
  • Use discretion in disseminating patient information to outside sources.
  • Perform simple lab tests (CBC, glucose, HKL, etc.) per policy and procedure.
  • Review patient record for completeness prior to visit and provide entries to patient records as necessary.
  • Monitor return of lab/test results, ensuring all results requested are complete and available for provider review.
Administrative Support Duties
  • Answer phones, process patients, and accurately review/enter demographic/insurance information into system.
  • Operate office equipment including fax machine, copier, credit card scanners, and related equipment.
  • Assist Office Manager with projects and requests.
  • Comply with company/financial policy and procedure.
  • Maintain reception area and workspace in neat, clean order.
Patient Payment Processing
  • Collect co-pays, self-pay, and past due balances at time of service with 98% collection rate.
  • Post and close the batch for the day.
  • Submit completed or balanced journal and cash, checks and credit cards to Office Manager at the completion of the work day.
Radiologic Examination Duties
  • Receive orders for designated radiologic examinations and prepare the room.
  • Transport patients to and from exam/waiting rooms in wheelchair as required.
  • Position patients on table or in appropriate posture, lift and stabilize incapacitated patients, and adjust immobilizations.
  • Check and adjust voltage, amperage, exposure duration; perform calculations and calibrations.
  • Activate machinery and take required number of exposures, reposition patient between exposures.
  • Process films using automated equipment and review film quality; take steps to assure quality control standards.
  • Maintain radiation safety, exposure levels, shielding, use lead apron as per Alara, protect public and maintain equipment cleanliness.
Qualifications
  • Graduation from a two-year accredited program in Radiologic Technology is required.
  • Medical Assistant experience is preferred.
  • State of Connecticut Radiology State Licensure is required.
  • BLS certification is required.
  • General orientation at time of hire. Fire/Safety/Infection Control annually. Other hospital mandated programs.
Special Requirements
  • Demonstrated proficiency in electrocardiographic testing.
  • Must be able to take vital signs, knowledgeable in medical terminology, anatomy and physiology.
  • Familiarity with medical equipment common to a medical practice.
Physical Requirements
  • Bending, stooping, walking, and sitting on a daily basis.
  • Assists patients in and out of treatment rooms, chairs, on and off exam tables.
  • Ability to spend one to four hours per day at computer terminal/personal computer performing data entry analysis.
  • Must hear with sufficient acuity, visual acuity for reading computers and documents, speak to be understood, and conduct documentation requiring visual dexterity.
Work Environment

Medical office setting with direct exposure to patients, body fluids, possible exposure to bloodborne pathogens, high volume of telephone and personal contact with customers, and radiation exposure.

Cognitive Requirements
  • Ability to triage patients according to needs.
  • Excellent communication skills, including listening, verbal, and written skills.
  • Provide comprehensive, accurate initial assessment to Medical Providers and read both routine and technical information with comprehension.
  • Perform simple calculations for medication doses and procedures.
