Job summary

White-Wilson Medical Center, P.A. is seeking a full-time Medical Assistant for our Family Practice.

You will support physicians in examinations, perform basic clinical duties, screen patients, take histories, administer medications, and ensure accurate documentation. The role requires a compassionate approach, strong teamwork, and adherence to safety standards.

Eligibility includes high school diploma, completion of an MA program, active MA certification, and current BLS.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Graduation from an accredited medical assistant program.
  • Active MA certification or registration (can be obtained within 6 months).
  • Current BLS certification is required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist provider during treatment and testing, including vitals.
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments per standards.
  • Observe and report patient conditions and drug reactions.
  • Perform point-of-care testing and venipuncture when needed.
  • Coordinate appointments and ensure urgent patient flow.
  • Screen patients, take histories, and manage records.
  • Educate patients about procedures and follow-up.

Job description

Performs nursing functions for physician/extender. Supports the Objectives and Philosophy of White-Wilson Medical Center.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Prepares equipment and aids provider during treatment, examination, and testing of patients including patient screening, histories, and vital signs.
  • Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with clinical standards.
  • Observes, records and reports patient’s condition and reaction to drugs and treatments to physicians.
  • May perform point of care testing and resulting.
  • May perform venipuncture, ensuring accurate and safe collection of blood samples.
  • Performs patient outreach for value-based initiatives and patient optimization programs.
  • Oversees appointment bookings and ensures preferences are given to patients in emergency situations. Assists in maintaining timely flow of patients.
  • Coordinates and schedules procedures at hospitals or surgery centers and handles any prior authorizations that may be necessary.
  • Initiates patient referrals and coordinates with staff if a patient has barriers with the outside referral.
  • Provides patient education regarding procedures.
  • Calls patients with necessary results.
  • Responds to and refers incoming telephone calls.
  • Refills prescriptions and handles any medication authorizations for patients.
  • Maintains exam rooms for necessary supplies and materials. Ensures cleanliness.
  • Consistently displays a positive attitude and a personal commitment to excellence.

Required Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Graduation from an accredited medical assistant school or program.
  • Possession of an active MA certification or registration (can be obtained during the first 6 months of employment).
  • Current American Heart Association recognized Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position in an outpatient medical business office setting. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm. Based on business need, the ability to work a flexible schedule, including some overtime as approved in advance.

This position does not require any travel.

Work Environment

This position requires regular and reliable on-site attendance.
