Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree preferred.
  • 1–2 years of MA experience required or preferred.
  • BLS certification preferred; CMA preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Take vital signs, weight, height, and interview patients.
  • Document information in medical records and schedule appointments.
  • Explain procedures and educate patients, order educational materials.
  • Perform basic office duties and coordinate with departments.
  • Collect blood/tissue samples and prepare for testing (phlebotomy if competent).

This position is Monday-Friday 7:30am-4:30pm.We do our best to keep all employees in their assigned practices and locations; however, you may also be asked to float to other departments in the WHP system when appropriate and needed during times of staffing shortages/other extenuating circumstances for cross-coverage purposes and to ensure adequate coverage and support.The role supports healthcare teams by assisting with both clinical and non-clinical patient services under the direction of healthcare providers. Key responsibilities include taking vital signs, documenting patient information, scheduling appointments, and managing patient flow. This role involves direct interaction with patients to ensure their comfort and address concerns, as well as collaboration with physicians, nurse practitioners, and nursing staff to facilitate efficient care.Essential Functions-Assists junior Medical Assistants with day-to-day questions and responsibilities and helps facilitate their learning by participating in onboarding training.-Show patients to examination rooms, prepare necessary equipment for healthcare providers, and interview patients to obtain medical information, measure their vital signs, weight, and height, and record information in the patient's medical record.-Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physician instructions to patients, ordering and organizing educational materials to reinforce patient education.-Perform general office duties, such as answering phones, taking dictation, and completing insurance forms, while acting as a liaison with other departments and advocating for patients with a positive customer service approach.-Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, log them, and prepare them for testing; perform phlebotomy if competence is demonstrated.-Maintains inventory of immunizations and check expiration dates.-Provides immunizations (as applicable) which requires certification or 3 years of experience administering a vaccine and supervision of a provider.-Responsible for improving appropriate departmental quality initiatives, such as two patient identifiers and hand hygiene.QualificationsEducationHigh School Diploma or Equivalent required or Associate's Degree Medical Assisting preferredLicenses and CredentialsBasic Life Support [BLS Certification] preferredCertified Medical Assistant [National Certification] preferredExperienceDirect MA experience or medical field work 1-2 years requiredKnowledge, Skills and Abilities- Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential for success in this position.- Ability to prioritize tasks in complex and busy environments.- Accuracy and attention to detail.- Comply with all local, state, and federal privacy and confidentiality rules and regulations.- Ability to take vital signs and manual blood pressure, as well as collect blood samples and other specimens.- Comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and protocols.- Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and medical office software.- Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.- Managing one's own time and the time of others.Additional Job Details (if applicable)Strongly Preferred:Women's Health or OBGYN experienceEpic experienceRemote TypeOnsiteWork Location770 Central AvenueScheduled Weekly Hours40Employee TypeRegularWork ShiftDay (United States of America)Pay Range$19.80 - $24.94/HourlyGrade3At Mass General Brigham, we believe in recognizing and rewarding the unique value each team member brings to our organization.
