Job summary

American Health Network (AHN), part of Optum, seeks a Medical Assistant for Primary Care in Westerville, OH. You will prepare exam rooms, document histories, measure vitals, and assist physicians with in-office procedures using NextGen EMR.

You may pursue CMA/CCMA/NCMA/RMA certification within 9 months and may earn a $1,000 sign-on bonus as an external candidate. Schedule is Mon-Fri, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.; High School diploma plus MA credential or equivalent required; EMT or enrollment in MA

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED is required.
  • Medical Assistant diploma, certificate, or certification OR 1+ years of MA experience after training OR enrollment in an MA program OR EMT certification is required or in progress.
  • Medical Assistant certification (CMA, CCMA, NCMA, or RMA) or willingness to attain within 9 months of start date.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares patient and treatment rooms; sterilizes medical equipment.
  • Rooms patients, obtains health history, and measures and documents vital signs.
  • Documents patient care and medical history using NextGen EMR software.
  • Assists physicians with minor, in-office procedures.
  • Schedules appointments, handles prior authorizations, medication refills, referrals, and paperwork.
  • Performs CLIA waived testing and routine laboratory tests.
  • Administers injections or treatments and maintains safety standards.
  • Complies with CMA/CCMA/NCMA/RMA certification within 9 months of employment.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Prepares patient and treatment rooms; sterilizes medical equipment
  • Rooms patients, obtains health history, and measures and documents vital signs (pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, height, weight)
  • Documents patient care and medical history using NextGen electronic medical record (EMR) software
  • Assists physicians with minor, in-office procedures
  • Schedules appointments, completes prior authorizations, processes medication refills, handles referrals, answers calls and completes necessary paperwork
  • Performs CLIA waived testing
  • Administers injections or treatments and performs routine laboratory tests
  • Maintains all Practice Health and Safety Standards
  • Complies with Medical Assistant Certification Procedure by becoming certified (CMA, CCMA, NCMA, or RMA) within 9 months of employment

Required Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Medical Assistant diploma, technical certificate, or certification OR 1+ years of experience performing the critical skills of a Medical Assistant after on-the-job training OR Current enrollment in an accredited Medical Assistant training program OR Active EMT certification accredited
  • Medical Assistant Certification (CMA, CCMA, NCMA, or RMA) or must be willing to attain that certification within 9 months of start date
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Active Medical Assistant Certification (CMA, CCMA, NCMA, or RMA)
  • CPR certification
  • Additional healthcare certifications including ARRT, CEHRS, CBCS, CMAA, CPT
  • Experience working as an MA or EMT in a primary care setting
  • Experience with NextGen or other electronic medical records (EMR) software
  • Experience performing medical back-office tasks including injections/immunizations, phlebotomy, urinalysis, and administering medications
  • Experience performing medical front-office tasks including scheduling appointments, prior authorizations, medication refills, and referrals
