Job Description: Medical Assistant

The Medical Assistant (MA) participates in providing patient care at the appropriate skill level. They have a duty to provide a standard of care that meets or exceeds that of a reasonably competent and knowledgeable Medical Assistant. The MA performs duties within their scope of practice delegated by, and under the supervision of, a provider (TX) or physician (FL).

Responsibilities include organizing the clinical environment, supporting patient care, assisting physicians and nursing personnel, and ensuring policy compliance. The MA supports identifying patient needs, communicates data to the provider, and delivers quality customer service.

Primary Responsibilities
  1. Perform duties within scope, operate diagnostic equipment, perform wound care, administer non-intravenous medication, collect specimens, perform EKGs, and sterilize equipment.
  2. Room patients, prepare them for examinations.
  3. Accurately document patient care in medical records.
  4. Coordinate patient care as directed.
  5. Maintain patient confidentiality and respect.
  6. Organize exam rooms, stock supplies, sterilize instruments.
  7. Follow infection control procedures.
  8. Screen patients via telephone and in person, gather information.
  9. Support and follow Standard Delegation of Orders (SDO).
  10. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Current, recognized Medical Assistant certification or ability to obtain within 180 days.
  • BLS certification at hire or within 30 days.
  • Basic computer skills, knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Ability to remain calm in emergencies, good communication skills.
  • Proof of immunity to certain diseases or vaccinations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1+ years of experience as a Medical Assistant.
  • Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding.
  • Bilingual abilities.
Physical & Mental Requirements
  • Ability to lift >35 lbs with assistance, stand for long periods.
  • Fine motor skills, ability to follow instructions, logical reasoning.
  • Exposure to communicable diseases, ability to discriminate shades of color.
Compensation and Benefits

The hourly range is $19.00 to $25.00, based on experience and other factors. Benefits include comprehensive packages, incentive programs, stock purchase options, and 401k contributions.
