Medical Assistant - UPMC Washington, Center of Orthopedic Excellence

In our bustling Orthopedic practice, you’ll build meaningful relationships with patients, collaborate with our enthusiastic team of providers, and thrive in a supportive, family-like atmosphere! If you’re passionate about making a difference in patients' lives, consider this opportunity.

Responsibilities:
  1. This position will work in the front office & the back office, after receiving their ASPMA (foot x-ray certification).
  2. Prefer an applicant with experience with authorizations/ICD-10/CPT.
  3. Prefer an applicant with experience using durable medical equipment.
  4. Escort patients to exam/procedure rooms and assist with walking, transfers, dressing, specimen collection, and exam preparation.
  5. Collect patient information/history, take vitals, and perform screenings per provider guidelines.
  6. Relay instructions to patients and families with clarity and compassion.
  7. Send and receive patient medical records in compliance with HIPAA and other regulations.
  8. Prepare patient rooms, set up instruments and equipment according to department protocols.
  9. Clean exam/procedure rooms and equipment between visits to maintain infection control, and perform scheduled cleaning and record-keeping.
  10. Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, and level one labs, along with clinic procedures as per policy.
  11. Answer calls, providing pertinent information and patient education as directed.
  12. Administer injectable medications and vaccines under the supervision of a physician.
Schedule & Location:

Monday-Friday, primarily 7AM-4PM.

Locations in Washington, Waynesburg, and Cecil, PA. Must be able to travel to all three offices as needed.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Successful completion of a Medical Assistant program or equivalent hospital program, or a minimum of one year of direct patient care experience preferred.
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology, examination, diagnostic, and treatment room responsibilities.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • CPR certification based on AHA standards, including didactic and skills demonstration within 30 days of hire.
  • Act 34, 33, 32, 73 clearances.
