Job summary

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle is seeking a Medical Assistant Apprentice (MA Trainee) to learn under a licensed MA-C and support clinic operations. You will handle patient flow, initial assessments and clerical tasks while gaining hands-on EMR experience and working with providers to maintain efficient care delivery.

The apprenticeship spans 2000 hours over one year, with 8-hour shifts Monday–Friday, and is sponsored through WACMHC and SSC.

Qualifications

• Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Current BLS AHA Health Provider Card (or equivalent) with renewal every two years.
• Willingness to participate in process improvement initiatives.
• Proficient in email and word processing systems.
• Strong interpersonal and customer services skills.
• Ability to work in a fast paced, complex healthcare environment.
• Ability to multitask, prioritize and problem solve.
• Ability to communicate clearly in writing and verbally.
• Ability to follow directions and guidance.
• Ability to recognize learning needs and seek opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Patient flow: room patients and families into exam or procedure area.
• Initial patient assessment: vital signs, pain assessment, fall risk.
• Clerical tasks, patient transport, cleaning and restocking of exam rooms; maintain clinic flow.
• Recognizes symptoms of common illnesses and escalates as needed to healthcare providers.
• Act as liaison between patient/families and healthcare providers.
• Procedure assistant: prepare for and set up procedures and aid the healthcare provider.
