Multiple positions available for Medical Assistant at High Desert State Prison, located in Susanville, CA, Lassen County.
Under the administrative supervision of the Supervising Registered Nurse (SRN) II/III and the clinical supervision of a Physician and Surgeon, the Medical Assistant provides support to primary care providers in various health care settings. Duties include performing patient‑oriented procedures, supporting the Primary Care Team (PCT) for daily clinic operations, communicating effectively with patients and PCT members, and performing administrative duties. The Medical Assistant also addresses ongoing patient needs, collaborates with physicians and other health care providers, and promotes efficient and cost‑effective use of health care resources.
Possession of a valid certificate from an agency approved by the Department of Consumer Affairs, Medical Board of California to practice as a Medical Assistant. You must have ACTIVE certification status prior to appointment.
Classification is subject to Section 5, Hiring‑Above‑Minimum (HAM) Authorization. HAM rate: $4,556.
Eligible candidates may receive a $10,000 one‑time recruitment and retention stipend and a monthly $5,000 recruitment and retention differential during their first year.
California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) and California Correctional Health Care Services (CCHCS) employees may be eligible for a $5,000 referral bonus after 90 days of employment.
Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) requires base salary reductions of 3% for units 1,3,4,6,9,11,12,13,14,15,17,18,19,20,21 and related excluded, exempt, and statutory exempt employees, with 5 leave credits monthly through June 2027. Units 16 and related employees will have a 4.62% salary reduction and 8 leave credits monthly for at least 16 months.
