Job summary

Job Description And Duties

Effective July 1, 2025, in accordance with the applicable Memorandum of Understanding, the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) was implemented in response to the status of the State budget. PLP 2025 requires each full‑time employee in Bargaining Unit 20, and related Excluded, Exempt and Statutory Exempt employees, will have their base salary reduced by 3 percent and will receive 5 PLP 2025 leave credits monthly for at least 16 months. Salaries do not reflect the recent changes. Part‑time employees are subject to the same conditions as full‑time employees, on a prorated basis equivalent to their time‑base. Permanent intermittent employees are subject to the same condition as full‑time employees, based on the number of hours worked in the pay period.

Under the administrative supervision of the Supervising Registered Nurse (SRN) II/III, Correctional Facility (CF), and the clinical supervision of a Physician and Surgeon, CF, or Physician and Surgeon, CF (Internal Medicine/Family Practice), the Medical Assistant (MA) provides support to primary care providers in a variety of clinical settings. The MA, under the clinical direction of a provider or the valid authorization by a provider’s order, is responsible for performing patient oriented procedures, providing support to the Primary Care Team (PCT) for daily clinic operations, communicating effectively with patients and members of the PCT and other health care team members, and performing administrative duties. The MA is responsible for addressing the ongoing needs of patients, working with the physicians and other health care providers, and promoting the efficient, appropriate, and cost‑effective use of health care resources.

Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a valid certificate from an agency approved by the Department of Consumer Affairs, Medical Board of California to practice as a Medical Assistant.
