Job summary

UPMC is looking for a Medical Assistant to join their Jameson/Horizon Surgery practice in New Castle, PA. The role involves back office and front office duties, with a multidisciplinary team supporting high-quality surgical care close to home.

Hours are Monday through Friday, daylight hours, with no evenings, weekends or holidays required. Applicants with medical office and surgery scheduling experience are preferred and will be placed on the Medical Assistant Career Ladder based on experience

Qualifications

• Previous medical office and surgery scheduling experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Send/receive patient records per HIPAA and regulations.
• Obtain lab/x-ray reports, referrals, schedule appointments, verify insurance, prepare and manage charts.
• Prepare patient rooms and equipment; maintain infection control and restock supplies.
• Check schedules and organize patient flow; escort patients; assist with walking, transfers and exams.
• Answer calls and provide patient education as directed.
• Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, and level one labs; assist physicians with procedures; document in the medical record.
• Comply with OSHA, CLIA, PA DoH; maintain confidentiality; follow UPMC Health System policies.
• Under supervision, administer injectable medication and vaccines when appropriate.

UPMC is looking for a Medical Assistant to join their UPMC Jameson/Horizon Surgery practice in New Castle, PA! The UPMC Jameson/Horizon Surgery practice is a growing regional program that provides general surgery, vascular surgery, bariatric surgery, and surgical oncology services to patients throughout New Castle and the Shenango Valley. The practice continues to experience growth in patient demand and is supported by a multidisciplinary team of physicians, advanced practice providers, and staff dedicated to delivering high-quality, comprehensive surgical care close to home.

Hours for this position will be Monday through Friday, primarily daylight hours. No evenings, weekends, or holidays required! This position will be responsible for back office and front office duties. Previous medical office and surgery scheduling experience is preferred.

Applicants will be placed in the appropriate job title and salary from the Medical Assistant Career Ladder, based on their individual experience and education.

Responsibilities

• Send/receive patient medical records in accordance with Health Insurance. Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other state and federal regulations.
• Obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc. Complete forms/requisitions as needed. Schedule appointments. Verify insurance coverage and patient demographics. Prepare and managing charts to ensure information completed and filed appropriately. Other front office responsibilities, as required.
• Prepare patient rooms, set up instruments and equipment according to department protocol. Clean exam/procedure rooms, instruments and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control. Clean according to scheduled maintenance program and keeping appropriate records. Manage inventory of supplies; restocking exam/procedure rooms.
• Check schedules and organizing patient flow. Accompany patients to exam/procedure room. Assist patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, etc. Collect patient information/history, taking vitals, performing screenings per provider guidelines. Relay instructions to patients/families.
• Answering calls and providing pertinent information including patient education as directed.
• Perform phlebotomy, EKG's, and level one labs. Perform clinic procedures according to policy and procedure. Assist physicians with procedures. Document patient information into the medical record.
• Comply with requirements of appropriate regulatory agencies (i.e., OSHA, CLIA, PA Department of Health). Maintain strict confidentiality related to medical records and other data. Comply with all UPMC Health System policies and procedures.
• Under the direction and supervision of a physician, administer injectable medication and vaccines when appropriate.
