Job summary

Henry Ford Health is seeking a Medical Assistant for the Surgery – Colorectal team on the Main Campus in Detroit, MI. The role combines administrative and clinical duties to support patient flow and safety in a busy surgical setting.

You will collect histories, document vitals, prepare patients for exams, and assist during procedures under provider supervision. A MA program with externship or equivalent clinical experience is required, with BLS-C by orientation end date.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a Medical Assistant program with completion of a formal clinical externship (160 hour minimum) or graduate from MA program without externship but with at least 1 year clinical experience within past 5 years.
• Current BLS-C on hire or by end of orientation.

Schedule

• Full-time, 40 hours per week
• Four (4) 10-hour shifts
• Typical hours: 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
• Additional Requirements:

Graduate of a Medical Assistant program with completion of a formal clinical externship (160 hour minimum). OR Graduate from a Medical Assistant program without completion of a clinical externship but with a minimum one-year experience in clinical medical assisting within the past five (5) years. OR Current Professionally Recognized Medical Assistant Certification with a minimum of five (5) years of experience in clinical medical assisting. OR Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). OR Licensed Paramedic/Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with at least one-year clinical experience in clinical medical setting within the past five (5) years. OR Military trained medical personnel with at least one-year clinical experience in clinical medical setting within the past five (5) years.

• Current BLS-C upon hire or successful completion by the end of orientation.

Preferred Qualifications

• Basic computer knowledge and keyboarding skills.
• EPIC (Electronic Medical Record) experience.
