Job Description
Major Responsibilities:
  1. Escort patients to examination rooms, take and record vital signs such as blood pressures, temperatures, height, weight, etc. Collect and document patient health status, history, and monitor patient progress following standard procedures.
  2. Perform EKGs, phlebotomy, Point of Care (POC) tests according to clinic/office standards.
  3. Prepare, document, and administer non-intravenous injections as directed or required by office/clinic, within scope of practice.
  4. Assist in performing routine physical examinations or clinical procedures.
  5. Review laboratory results and ensure abnormal results are immediately brought to the attention of physicians and others as appropriate.
Position Qualifications:
License/Certification/Education:

Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or Heart Saver (HS) certification from the American Heart Association. If not available upon hire, must be obtained within 3 months from the date of hire. Failure to obtain certification within this period may result in termination or reassignment.
  • Medical Assistant credential approved by the Massachusetts Department of Health (ARMA, NHA, etc.), to be obtained within 1 year from hire/transfer. Failure to obtain credentialing may result in termination or reassignment. Exceptions may be granted by the Senior Vice President, Ambulatory Services for extenuating circumstances.

Any equivalent combination of education and experience providing proficiency in the responsibilities listed may substitute for formal requirements, unless licensure or certification is mandated.
