Job description

DESCRIPTION

Under general supervision, The Medical Assistant Specialist performs a variety of work duties that require specific knowledge and training in patient care duties within business and professions code of the State of California and/or the regulations The Joint Commission (TJC). These duties also include but are not limited to: environmental care functions, equipment/supply management and cleaning/disinfecting the environment. Incumbents may also provide front office services on a routine or back-up basis.

The Medical Assistant Specialist also trains other medical assistants and serves as a resource for the entire department. Responsibilities include processing workers' compensation, medical records, work status reports, immigration and visa physicals, and authorizations. Additionally, the specialist initiates and participates in improvement efforts which directly impact the clinic, and performs other lead duties as assigned. This role is essential in promoting a collaborative and high-performance team environment while supporting process improvement efforts.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Three (3) years of Medical Assistant experience.

  • BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART w/in 6 months of hire date.

  • Certified Medical Assistant(CMA) OR Certificate of completion of a Medical Assistant training program.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology, online scheduling, universal precautions, and proper use of body mechanics.

  • Ability to take initiative, follow through on responsibilities, and contribute positively to a team environment.

  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining a high standard of professionalism.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to express information, both verbally and in writing.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Prior experience in an occupational health setting.

  • Venipuncture experience.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.

  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $57,378 - $71,430 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $27.48 - $34.21

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
