Job summary

Children’s Colorado is seeking a Senior Medical Assistant to provide clinical support, assist care teams, and manage front and back office tasks. The role involves preparing patients, coordinating visits, and processing medication management within EMR systems.

The MA will support referral initiations, ensure compliance with safety standards, and help mentor new staff while contributing to a high-quality patient experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent and graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program.
• One year in a direct health care role.
• Additional year of experience may substitute for graduation in some cases and BLS/CPR plus CMA/RMA certifications are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patients for visits, escort to exam rooms, and ensure examination room readiness.
• Manage patient reception tasks including check-in/check-out and scheduling follow ups.
• Process medication refills and coordinate with EMR for medication management.

The Senior Medical Assistant (MA) provides clinical support to patients and assists care providers with clinical and administrative support.

• Job Details: 1.0 FTE; 40 hours/week - eligible for benefits

Duties & Responsibilities

• Prepares patients for the health care visit by directing and/or accompanying them to the examining room; providing examination gowns and drapes; arranging examining room instruments, supplies, and equipment. Conducts quality checks.
• Performs and supports patient reception including performing check-in and check–out, registration, scheduling and coordinating patient follow up visits.
• Creates moderately complex patient correspondence (i.e completes medication administration permission forms, refill request routing, etc.). Participates in Electronic Medical Record (EMR) medication management. May need to synthesize or compile data from multiple areas of medical record to complete forms.
• Independently initiates referrals and insurance pre-authorizations.
• Provides general office support including phone and fax management.
• Completes daily, weekly and monthly monitoring of reports and compliance. E.g. daily charge report, compliance with logs and checks, and etc.
• Serves as the preceptor for new staff including orientation, education, skill validation, tracking, assessment and monitoring progress.
• Ensures supplies are ready by monitoring inventory, stocking work areas, placing orders and verifying receipt.
• Participates in hospital committees as directed by leadership.
• Serves as a mentor, expert in clinical area/skill, a safety coach/specialist, and continuously assists in reviewing and assessing peers’ skill set.
• Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following, and enforcing standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.
• Verifies patient information by interviewing patient; reviewing and/or recording medical history; taking vital signs; confirming purpose of visit or treatment. Reports areas of concern to next care provider.
• Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping patient care information confidential.
• Adheres to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and The Joint Commission standards.
• Supports patient care delivery by assisting health care providers during examinations; preparing laboratory specimens; performing basic testing; disposing of contaminated supplies; cleaning or preparing for sterilization of medical instruments; administering medications per policy and procedures; telephoning prescriptions to pharmacies and other duties within scope.
• Anticipates and leads in balancing workloads and MA assignments and maintaining patient/clinic flow by coordinating with providers and clinic team.
• Provides phlebotomy and advanced specimen processing (i.e., centrifuge, Meditech) when indicated.
• Completes lab test follow up and medical record documentation.
• Prepares and completes medical record for visit by recording patient information, treatment, and test results. Assists with patient “MyChart” enrollment.
• Participates in the standardized education of patients through written instructions and answering questions as directed by provider.
• Cross trains to multiple specialties/sub-specialties for front and back office (where applicable).

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION –High school diploma or equivalent and graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program.

EXPERIENCE –One year in a direct health care role.

EQUIVALENCY –Additional one year of experience in a direct health care role may substitute for graduation from a Medical Assistant program.Total experience requirement without graduation from a Medical Assistant program is two years of experience in a direct health care role.

CERTIFICATION(S) - BLS for Healthcare Providers / CPR and certification as a Certified Medical Assistant, Registered Medical Assistant, National Certified Medical Assistant,Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant,Certified Clinical Medical Assistant.

Salary Information

Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience.
Hourly Range: $20.14 to $30.21
