Role Overview: Performs patient care under supervision of a physician or APP in an ambulatory setting as a medical assistant and acts as a medical scribe.

Note: Scribe training can be completed within 6 months of hire; it is not required upfront.

Responsibilities:

  1. Document medical visits and procedures accurately, including history, exams, procedures, patient education, diagnoses, prescriptions, and instructions.
  2. Prepare referral letters as directed.
  3. Support operational and quality initiatives.
  4. Communicate professionally with patients and staff.
  5. Gather patient data and assist during examinations and procedures.
  6. Provide routine treatments and administer medications as ordered.
  7. Assist in training and supervising other medical assistants and scribes.
  8. Ensure documentation complies with policies.
  9. Coordinate patient scheduling and act as liaison for referrals.
  10. Handle calls professionally and participate in departmental projects.
  11. Follow all policies, safety, and infection control standards.

Additional Functions:

  • Provide age-appropriate care and understand legal and compliance issues.
  • Use supplies efficiently and assist with reception and discharge as needed.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of an approved Medical Assistant training program.
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant Scribe training program.
  • Current BLS certification and certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA, RMA, CCMA, or NCMA).
  • Minimum three years of experience as a Certified Medical Assistant.
