JOB TITLE: Medical Assistant

GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

1. Greet, assist, and/or redirect patients, physicians, employees, and the general public.
2. Obtain and record vital signs, measure and record intake and output information.
3. Explain care procedures to patients and their families.
4. Document care given to patients utilizing the electronic medical record.
5. Perform blood sugar checks using the glucometer as needed.
6. Communicate unusual or emergent situations to the RN in a timely manner.
7. Assist patients with activity and positioning.
8. Follow OSHA and other safety standards to actively protect patients and staff, reviewed annually.
9. Discharge pain patients.
10. Clean equipment between patients.
11. Be attentive to patient and physician needs.
12. Assist physicians with diagnostic procedures, tests, and treatments.
13. Handle patient telephone calls such as referrals, injections/infusion lines, nursing voicemails, etc.
14. Assist with the Urine Drug Screening process, including education and training to oversee patients.
15. Complete annual KDHE radiology credits as required to maintain certification for assisting in the pain center procedure room.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) diploma; radiology certification preferred.
• One-year RMA experience in an acute care facility or with acute care patients.
