Job summary

Quincy Medical Group in Maine is seeking a Medical Assistant in Rheumatology to support providers, manage patient flow, and assist with exams, injections, and in‑office procedures. You will help patients feel informed, supported, and prepared throughout their care.

You will document in the electronic medical record, coordinate referrals and tests, and collaborate with the care team to ensure smooth clinic operations and a positive patient experience.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Medical Assistant education or clinical experience preferred.
  • Medical Assistant certification preferred.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification required.
  • Rheumatology or ambulatory care experience preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for visits by obtaining vital signs, reviewing medications and history, and documenting in the EMR.
  • Assist providers with examinations, treatments, injections, and in‑office procedures within scope.
  • Respond to patient messages and calls; gather clinical information and relay concerns to provider or nursing team.
  • Support medication refills, prior authorizations, referrals, labs and imaging orders, and follow‑up as directed.
  • Educate patients about their care plan, testing, medications, and next steps as appropriate.
  • Document patient care accurately and maintain timely EMR records.

About the Role

As a Medical Assistant in Rheumatology at Quincy Medical Group, you will work closely with providers and the care team to support patients managing arthritis, autoimmune conditions, and other rheumatic diseases. You will play an important role in keeping the clinic running smoothly while helping patients feel informed, supported, and prepared throughout their care. This role is a great fit for a Medical Assistant who enjoys building relationships with patients, working as part of a collaborative specialty team, and balancing hands‑on clinical care with coordination and follow‑up.

Schedule & Work Environment

Full-time, Monday‑Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:15 PM. Outpatient specialty clinic environment with a combination of direct patient care, clinical support, and care coordination responsibilities.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Prepare patients for visits by obtaining vital signs, reviewing medications and medical history, and documenting relevant information in the electronic medical record.
  • Assist providers with examinations, treatments, injections, and other in‑office procedures within scope of practice.
  • Respond to patient messages and phone calls, gather appropriate clinical information, and communicate concerns to the provider or nursing team.
  • Support medication refill requests, prior authorizations, referrals, lab and imaging orders, and follow‑up care as directed.
  • Provide patients with instructions and education related to their care plan, testing, medications, and next steps within scope of practice.
  • Accurately document patient care and maintain complete, timely information within the electronic medical record.
  • Prepare exam rooms, maintain clinical supplies, and ensure equipment and work areas are ready for patient care.
  • Collaborate with providers and other members of the care team to support efficient patient flow and a positive patient experience.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Medical Assistant education or previous clinical experience preferred.
  • Medical Assistant certification preferred.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification required.
  • Previous rheumatology, specialty clinic, or ambulatory healthcare experience preferred but not required.
  • Strong communication, organization, and patient care skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain accuracy in a busy clinical environment.
  • Comfort using electronic medical records and learning specialty‑specific workflows.

Compensation

The compensation for this role includes a base pay range of $16.12 - $24.18 per hour, with actual pay determined by factors such as skills, experience, education, certifications, geographic location, and internal equity. Additional compensation may be available through bonuses and other incentives. Base pay is only a portion of the total rewards package.
