Sun River Health - Medical Assistant/Patient Representative

We are a Federally Qualified, Non-Profit Health Center serving communities in Suffolk, Rockland, Orange, Dutchess, Ulster, Sullivan, Columbia, and Westchester County. We are currently seeking a full-time Medical Assistant/Patient Representative to support our Poughkeepsie, NY location.

Position Overview

The Medical Assistant helps patients and the clinical team at the designated health center, supporting medical care as directed by nursing and medical staff, and in accordance with the objectives and policies of the Center. The role involves compliance with organizational standards and additional duties as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Takes vital signs, vision, and hearing tests; records patient data in eCW (laboratory results, pain level, PEAS, PhQ, Smoke status, etc.); documents reason for visit; and ensures CVRs are completed as needed.
  2. Performs in-house labs, manages quality control, and maintains equipment following organizational protocols.
  3. Draws blood and collects other specimens as directed by providers, processing them accordingly.
  4. Conducts routine tests in areas such as serology, hematology, chemistry, histology, and cytology using standard techniques and equipment; collects specimens for outside labs (e.g., Pap, cultures).
  5. Prepares exam rooms and equipment, assists/chaperones during examinations and treatments.
  6. Keeps the clinical area stocked and organized; maintains laboratory supplies; disposes of outdated materials.
  7. Cleans and sterilizes equipment and logs according to policies and manufacturer guidelines.
  8. Performs basic clerical tasks, answers phones professionally, communicates concerns to nurses, and handles inquiries.
  9. Maintains logs and records for laboratory tests.
  10. Performs EKGs.
Minimum Requirements
  • High School diploma/GED with Medical Assistant Training Certificate.
  • Preferred: Associate's degree with Medical Assistant National Certification.
  • Minimum of 1 year related work experience.

Hourly Range: $20.50 - $22.00/hour
