Job summary

McLaren Health Care seeks a part-time Medical Assistant/Patient Care Tech to support clinic operations in Michigan. Under supervision, you will perform patient care tasks, take vital signs, and assist in exams, while greeting patients and handling scheduling, registrations, and basic insurance tasks.

Preferred candidates hold CMA or RMA credentials, AHA BLS, EMR experience, and at least one year in a medical office with multiple providers; strong customer service and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

• Must have high school diploma or equivalent with six months medical assistant/patient care tech experience.
• Completion of one of the following programs: medical assistant, EMT, nurse assistant, LPN, armed services medic or patient care technician.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care support including vital signs, assisting in examinations and procedures.
• Greet patients and manage phone calls, scheduling, and patient registration.
• Collect insurance co-pays and deductibles; verify insurance and process related financial activities.

Job description

Under general supervision, and according to established policies and procedures, will provide excellent patient care by performing or assisting in a variety of medical procedures and tests to assist in the examination and treatment of patients, including but not limited to vital signs, procedures, various treatment, administering injections and venipuncture. Provides excellent customer service by greeting patients, answering the phone and directing the caller as appropriate. Performs duties across all physician practices, patient registration, scheduling appointments, collecting insurance co-pays and deductibles, insurance verification, records financial activity and accounts for all transactions completed on each shift.

Required

• High school diploma or equivalent and six months experience as a medical assistant or patient care tech.

OR

• High school diploma or equivalent and completion of one of the following programs: medical assistant, emergency medical technician, nurse assistant, licensed practical nurse, armed services medic or patient care technician.
• For clinics with the Rural Health Designation, Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association (AHA), American Red Cross (ARC), and Canadian equivalents, (MHC approved providers for the resuscitation certification) is required within 6 months of hire

Preferred

• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) through the American Medical Technologists (AMT)
• American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Certification. May be required at management discretion.
• Electronic medical record experience.
• One-year experience working in medical office with multiple providers.
• Previous experience working in a medical office of the same specialty.
• American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Certification. May be required at management discretion.
