Job summary

The CORE Institute in Sun City West, AZ is seeking a Medical Assistant to support orthopedic care teams. You will room patients, document vitals, prepare charts, and assist providers with procedures using EMR and scheduling software.

Ideal candidates have 1–2 years in orthopedics or recent graduation with CMA certification, and must pass the MA competency exam within six months. We offer competitive benefits and a supportive work environment.

Qualifications

  • 1-2 years of experience in orthopedics, spine surgery, or pain management is preferred.
  • Graduated from a formal training program during the last 12-18 months, and have the CMA certificate.
  • OR, Is grandfathered in as defined by State regulation.
  • The employee must pass the MA competency exam within the first six months of employment.
  • Active Medical Assistant certification such as CMA/AMT/AAMA/CCMA/NCMA with proof of current membership.
  • Experience with office medical procedures and treatments and knowledge of insurance, managed care operations, EMR and scheduling software.
  • Certification or additional training must meet the requirements for meaningful use.
  • BLS certification require
  • High school diploma/GED, and graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant training program as defined by state regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates communication between the patient and the provider during patient care.
  • Collect and share pertinent information with the provider
  • Receives and acts on directives from the provider
  • Prepare the patient for a visit with the provider, including rooming, vitals, intake, radiology, dressings, procedure setup, injection prep, data entry into EMR.
  • Complete tasks related to PROs, Quality Payment Programs, etc.
  • Maintain exam room standards and restock at day end.
  • Monitor biohazard and sharps containers and replace as needed.
  • Assist provider with prescriptions and forms (work release, FMLA).
  • Retrieve and respond to voicemails within 24 business hours and document actions in EMR.
  • Prepare electronic patient charts for visits; verify outstanding testing results in EMR; note imaging, DME, or casting needs.
  • Scan clinical documents into EMR.
  • Print clinic schedules on the morning of service date.
  • Ensure patient education as indicated by provider.
  • Manage EMR desktops for assigned providers.
  • Act as PTO Buddy per clinic plan
  • Create and promote a positive patient experience

Minimum Qualifications:

  • In lieu of experience must have the following training and/or experience:
  • Graduated from a formal training program during the last 12-18 months, and have the CMA certificate;
  • OR, Is grandfathered in as defined by State regulation.
  • The employee must pass the MA competency exam within the first six months of employment.
  • Active Medical Assistant certification such as Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) with proof of current membership from American Medical Technologists (AMT) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) with proof of current membership from American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) with proof of current membership from National Health Career Association (NHA) (Test administered after 7/1/2017 only) or National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) with proof of current membership from National Certified Competency Testing (NCCT), or per State regulations
  • Experience with office medical procedures and treatments and knowledge of insurance, managed care operations, EMR and scheduling software.
  • Certification or additional training must meet the requirements for meaningful use.

Essential Functions

  • Facilitates communication between the patient and the provider during patient care:
  • Collect and share pertinent information with the provider
  • Receives and acts on directives from the provider
  • Responsible for preparing the patient for a visit with the provider. Duties include but are not limited to, rooming patients, obtaining and documenting vitals, reviewing intake paperwork, pulling up radiology images, removing dressings, procedure set-up, injection prep, and accurate data entry into EMR.
  • Responsible for completing tasks associated with Company initiatives such as PROs, Quality Payment Programs, etc.
  • Maintains exam room standards. Rooms should be restocked at the end of each clinic day. Rooms and tables should be cleaned as needed during the clinic and at the end of each day.
  • Monitor biohazard and sharps containers and replace them as needed.
  • Assist the provider in preparing patient prescriptions and completing medical and patient forms (i.e. work release, FMLA, etc.).
  • Retrieves and responds to voicemails within 24 business hours and documents actions in EMR.
  • Prepares electronic patient charts for clinic visits before the date of service.
  • Verify any outstanding testing results are in EMR, confirm the appropriateness of the patient to the provider (body part and/or insurance), note imaging, DME, or casting needed prior to provider visit on the date of service.
  • Scans clinical documents into EMR.
  • Print clinic schedules on the morning of the date of service.
  • Ensures the patient receives education as indicated by the provider.
  • Manages EMR desktops of assigned providers in a timely manner.
  • Act as PTO Buddy per clinic plan
  • Create and promote a positive patient experience
