The Medical Support Specialist (MSS) is responsible for performing routine medical and testing procedures under the direct supervision of the treating clinician, as well as supporting other areas of the facility including registration and referral management. This role requires efficient and accurate delivery of patient care in a fast-paced environment, ensuring quality clinical care and an excellent patient experience through welcoming, respectful, and skillful interactions.

Responsibilities

  • Perform Department of Transportation (DOT) and Non-DOT drug and alcohol testing.
  • Prepare patients for physical examinations, including vital signs and ancillary testing (vaccines, injections, phlebotomy, PFTs, audiogram testing, respirator fit testing).
  • Perform rapid screening tests (influenza, strep, mono, glucose, etc.).
  • Assist providers during examinations and treatments.
  • Perform routine medical procedures as ordered and triage emergent patients.
  • Prepare and assist with procedures and injury care.
  • Apply bandages, dressings, and splints as ordered.
  • Dispense medications and DME per regulations.
  • Complete quality assurance activities on equipment and testing processes.
  • Maintain supplies, clean rooms, and stock exam rooms.
  • Operate and calibrate medical devices, keeping records as per policy.
  • Notify supervisor of equipment issues or supply needs.
  • Assist with patient flow and volume management.
  • Inform patients of wait times.
  • Handle clerical tasks, ensure accurate documentation, and perform front office duties.
  • Follow HIPAA and safety guidelines.
  • Attend staff meetings and maintain a neat facility appearance.
  • Complete required training, including clinical competency updates.

Qualifications

Education: Vocational/Technical/Business School. Must have Medical Assistant Certification from an accredited program or Military Medical Specialist with current credentials.

Experience: At least six months of medical assistant experience. Knowledge of medical procedures and terminology. Occupational medicine knowledge preferred.

Skills: Service mentality, attention to detail, urgency, initiative, flexibility, decision-making, customer service, confidentiality, communication, teamwork, and proficiency with Microsoft Office.
