Qualifications

GENERAL OVERVIEW:

Under the direction of the provider and as a member of the healthcare team, assists in coordinating examination, treatment, and healthcare planning for patients. Supports office functions to enhance patient care and operations, following all protocols, policies, procedures, and workflows.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist in patient care coordination under supervision of healthcare provider.
  • Prepare and room patients according to standardized workflows. Obtain vital signs, document patient information, history, tobacco and medication screening. Assist with depression screening tools and annual wellness visits. Update medication and social history in the EHR. Cue up orders for screenings, prescriptions, or other protocols as applicable.
  • Perform back office testing per AHN protocols.
  • Assist providers with examinations and procedures.
  • Serve as a scribe with additional training if applicable.
  • Follow up with patients via preferred method, notify test results under provider direction.
  • Prepare exam rooms, maintain inventory of supplies, ensure cleanliness and sterilization of instruments.
  • Perform lab controls and equipment checks as assigned.
  • Administer and document medications accurately.
  • Document in EHR according to standards.
  • Perform clerical duties and other tasks as assigned.
  • May float between locations as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum

  • High School / GED
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant Program OR 1 year of Medical Assistant or direct patient care experience including vital signs, injections, phlebotomy, EKGs
  • CPR – American Heart Association
  • Act 34, 33, and 73 FBI Fingerprinting and Background Clearances

Certification Requirements:

  • Graduated from a medical assistant program within five years OR one year of recent work experience as a medical assistant, with certification attempted within 30 days and obtained within 120 days of hire. Accepted certifications include NHA, AAMA, AMT, NCCT, AMCA.

Employees not meeting these criteria may have the opportunity to sit for a company proctored certification exam when qualified.

  • Associate's Degree
