GENERAL OVERVIEW:

Under the supervision of the healthcare provider and as part of the healthcare team, assists in coordinating patient examinations, treatments, and healthcare planning. Supports office functions to facilitate patient care and operations. Adheres to all protocols, policies, procedures, and workflows.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assist in patient care coordination under provider supervision using a team-based approach.
  2. Prepare and room patients according to workflow standards. Obtain vital signs, document patient info, history, tobacco and medication screening, and assist with depression screenings and wellness visits. Review and update medication and social histories in the EHR. Queue orders for screenings, prescriptions, and refills as per protocols.
  3. Perform back-office testing following AHN protocols.
  4. Assist providers with examinations and procedures.
  5. Serve as a scribe if trained.
  6. Follow up with patients via preferred methods, notify test results under provider guidance.
  7. Prepare exam rooms, maintain inventory of supplies, and ensure cleanliness and sterilization of instruments.
  8. Perform lab controls and equipment checks.
  9. Administer and document medications safely and accurately.
  10. Document all activities accurately in the EHR following standards.
  11. Perform clerical duties as assigned and may float between locations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum:

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant program OR 1 year of Medical Assistant experience OR 1 year in a direct patient care role involving vital signs, injections, phlebotomy, EKGs.
  • CPR certification (American Heart Association).
  • Act 34, 33, and 73 FBI fingerprinting and background clearance certificates.

Certification Requirements:

  • If graduated from a medical assistant program within five years or has one year of recent MA experience, must complete certification training or testing within 30 days of hire and obtain certification within 120 days.
  • Accepted certifications include NHA, AAMA, AMT, NCCT, AMCA.

Employees not meeting certification criteria may have the opportunity to sit for a company proctored exam.

Preferred:

  • Associate's Degree.
