GENERAL OVERVIEW:

Under the direction of the provider and as a member of the healthcare team, assists in coordinating examination, treatment, and healthcare planning for patients. Supports office functions to ensure smooth patient care and operations, following established protocols, policies, and procedures.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist in patient care coordination under supervision of the healthcare provider.
  • Prepare and room patients, obtain vital signs, document patient info, history, tobacco, and medication screening. Assist with depression screening, wellness visits, and review/update medication and social history in the EHR. Pend/''cue up'' orders for screenings, prescriptions, or other orders as per protocols.
  • Perform back-office testing following AHN protocols.
  • Assist providers with examinations and procedures.
  • May serve as a scribe with additional training.
  • Follow up with patients via preferred method, notify test results under provider direction.
  • Prepare exam rooms, ensure adequate supplies, and maintain cleanliness and sterilization standards.
  • Perform lab controls and equipment checks.
  • Administer and document medications accurately.
  • Document all activities in the EHR following standards.
  • Perform clerical duties as assigned; may float between locations.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum:

  • High School / GED
  • Completion of Medical Assistant Program OR 1 year of Medical Assistant or direct patient care experience (vital signs, injections, phlebotomy, EKGs)
  • CPR – American Heart Association
  • Act 34, 33, and 73 FBI Fingerprinting Clearances

Certification Requirements:

  • Graduates of medical assistant programs within 5 years OR one year of recent work experience as a medical assistant must complete certification training/testing within 30 days of hire and obtain certification within 120 days.
  • Accepted certifications include NHA, AAMA, AMT, NCCT, AMCA.

Employees not meeting these criteria may have opportunities to sit for a company-proctored certification exam when qualified.

Preferred:

  • Associate's Degree
